Montxo Armendáriz, Álex de la Iglesia and Hans Zimmer will receive the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts
Among the 32 cultural personalities and institutions distinguished with the Medal, Carlos Hipólito, Emilio Sagi, Adriana Ozores, Antonio Resides, Emma Suárez, Pilar Lladó, Laura García Lorca, Gustavo Dudamel... and posthumously Pau Donés, Álvaro de Luna and Andrés Sardá also stand out.
The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Minister of Culture and Sports, Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, approved this Tuesday the granting of the Gold Medals for Merit in Fine Arts corresponding to the year 2020 32 cultural personalities.
This award distinguishes people and entities that have stood out in the field of artistic and cultural creation or have provided notable services in the promotion, development or dissemination of art and culture or in the conservation of artistic heritage.
They have been awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts:
Monxo Armendáriz
(Olleta, Navarra, 1949) Film director and screenwriter. His first work was the short Barregarriaren dantza (Dance of the funny) (1974), and it was sponsored cooperatively by about forty people grouped in Txantreako lankideen. He won the Silver “Mikeldi” and the First Prize for Basque Cinema at the Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Contest in 1979, and the “Special Prize for the Quality of Cinematography Direction” from the Ministry of Culture. With the economic benefits, in 1980 he shot a new short film, Ikusmena. In the following years he obtained several awards and mentions from the Ministry of Culture with documentaries and recorded his first feature film Tasio (1984).
In 1986, he won the Silver Shell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival with 27 Hours, and with Las Cartas de Alou (1990) the Goya for "Best Original Screenplay." His second Goya with the unforgettable Historias del Kronen (1994). He also had an Oscar nomination for "Best Foreign Film" with Secretos del corazón (1997).
Alex de la Iglesia
(Bilbao, 1965) Director, screenwriter and producer. While studying Philosophy at the University of Deusto, he began to excel as a comic artist in publications such as Burdinjaun or Trokola. His debut in the world of cinema was in 1988, as artistic director of the short film Mama by Pablo Berger. In 1991, his talent was revealed, combining production on Todo por la pasta, with directing his first work, the acclaimed short film Mirindas Assassinas. With that letter of introduction, he was signed by Almodóvar, who entrusted him with directing Mutant Action (1993), for which he was nominated for the Goya for "Best New Director." Two years later came his consecration with The Day of the Beast (1995), for which he won the Goya for "Best Director." Later he will release Perdita Durango (1997) -his foray into Hollywood-, The community (2000), 800 bullets (2002), The Oxford crimes (2008), Sad trumpet ballad (2010), The witches of Zugarramurdi (2013), Messi (2014) -his first feature-length documentary-, My big night (2015), The bar (2017) or Perfect strangers (2017). In addition, he has produced films by other filmmakers such as Musarañas. Between 2009 and 2010, he presided over the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Hans Zimmer
(Fráncfort, Alemania, 1957). Compositor de música cinematográfica y videojuegos. Caracterizado por la integración de música electrónica y los arreglos sinfónico-orquestales, ha sido acreedor a reconocimientos cinematográficos como los Globos de oro, BAFTA, Emmy, Saturn, Grammy, además de un Óscar de la Academia por su trabajo en El rey león en 1994, premios a los que ha sido nominado en otras 10 ocasiones. En la actualidad, es considerado uno de los compositores más sobresalientes de Hollywood. Londres fue la ciudad en la que se inició musicalmente, de la mano de su mentor Stanley Myers. A comienzos de los ochenta se sumergió en el mundo del synthpop y new wave, en formaciones como The Camera Club y Helden. Su trayectoria dará un salto en 1988 con la composición de la banda sonora de la película ganadora del Óscar Rain Man, de Barry Levinson. Tras ese éxito, se integra en Hollywood y realiza Black Rain, Paseando a Miss Daisy, Thelma & Louise y Días de Trueno, entre otras. A estos trabajos le siguió la banda sonora de La Roca o la banda sonora de la producción animada El príncipe de Egipto. También realiza las bandas sonoras de La delgada línea roja, Origen, El desafío – Frost contra Nixon, El código Da Vinci, Spanglish, El último samurai, Spirit: El corcel indomable, Pearl Harbor o Gladiator. Trabaja en las tres secuelas de Piratas del Caribe y Batman Begins. En 2009, debuta en el ámbito de los videojuegos, creando la banda sonora de Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, la primera de muchas colaboraciones en esta industria.
Pau Donés (posthumously)
(Barcelona, 11 de octubre de 1966 – Bagergue, Lleida; 9 de junio de 2020) Músico, compositor y cantante (concedida a título póstumo). Comenzó muy joven como guitarrista de J.& Co. Band. En 1995 fundó Jarabe de Palo junto a Álex Tenas, Daniel Forcada, Joan Gené y Jordi Mena. El éxito llegó al año siguiente con ‘La Flaca’. En 1997 el grupo se llevó el Premio Amigo al «Mejor Artista Revelación» y un año después recibieron el Premio Ondas (1998). Desde entonces, Donés y Jarabe de Palo se convirtieron en referente del pop-rock latino. Sus siguientes éxitos fueron ‘Grita’ y ‘Depende’ y el gran hit del año 2000 ‘Bonito’. Jarabe de Palo llegó a grabar doce álbumes y recibir numerosos premios, siendo reconocido tanto en Europa como en América Latina. Su sexto trabajo, Adelantando, se publicó en 2007 y le valió la nominación a los premios Grammy Latino por «Mejor álbum vocal pop dúo o grupo» y a los Grammy por «Mejor álbum latino de rock alternativo». En 2017 publicó su autobiográfico 50 palos.
On January 4, 2019, the group announced the temporary withdrawal. A year later, on April 13, 2020, it was reported that the group was recording an album again.
In March of this year he reappeared with a video in which he sang the song 'Los Ángeles dress in white' on the balcony of his home, to support the health workers who were fighting the coronavirus, and at the end of May he published the video clip of the song 'Eso que tú me gives', a preview of the new album, Tragas o escupes.
Alvaro de Luna (posthumously)
(Madrid; April 10, 1935 – November 2, 2018) Actor (awarded posthumously). He began working at a very young age in the cinema as a stuntman or double in stunts, in such well-known productions as Spartacus (1960), where he doubled for Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis, or Barabbas (1961), acting as a double for Anthony Quinn. His debut with his own role occurred in the film The Mask of Scaramouche (1963), by Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi. Then came a brief role in El verdugo (1963), by Luis García Berlanga, and in the comedy Las que han que serve (1967).
But his career is best known on television, with his role as “El Algarrobo” in the series Curro Jiménez, and also in the adaptation of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez's work La barraca. Already in the 90s he participated in the popular Pharmacy on Duty. In 2008 he was nominated for the Goya Award for best actor for his performance in the film El prado de las estrellas (2007), by director Mario Camus.
His last appearances in cinema were in films such as Misericordiam Tuam (2008), by Juanra Fernández and his last feature film to date, La Última Guardia (2010), by Manuel Estudillo. On television we have seen him in Águila Roja (2012) and Luna, the mystery of Calenda (2013).
Andrés Sardá (posthumously)
(Barcelona; 1929 – 2019) Textile engineer and fashion designer (awarded posthumously). He was born into a family dedicated to the textile industry in Catalonia since the 19th century. When he finished his studies in textile engineering, he joined the family business and one of his first tasks was to introduce its products to the American market.
In 1962 he founded his own firm dedicated to design and production with the founding of his own women's lingerie company, and later he would also incorporate swimwear. He was a pioneer in incorporating elastic fibers in his designs using the latest technologies and new materials such as nylon or lycra to define the new concept of fashion in women's underwear.
National Fashion Award in 2015 for his contribution to placing Spanish fashion in a prestigious place worldwide. A year earlier he received the “Creator of the Year” award at the Salon International de la Lingerie in Paris.
Carlos Hipolito
(Madrid, 1956) Actor. He debuted on the stage in 1976, and since then he has not stopped working in theater, film and television. At the beginning of the 90s he began to stand out in cinema after his work in Beltenbros (1991), by Pilar Miró, and My brother of the soul (1993), by Mariano Barroso. He becomes an essential actor in the filmography of José Luis Garci in titles such as You're the one (A story from then) (2000), Story of a kiss (2002), Tiovivo c. 1950 (2004), Ninette (2005) or Sangre de mayo (2008). Nominated for the Goya for “Best Supporting Actor” for Story of a Kiss. He has also worked under Carlos Saura in Goya in Bordeaux (1999) and El seventh day (2004). Since 2001, he has been the narrating voice of the legendary TVE series, Cuéntame como paso.
Emilio Sagi
(Oviedo, 1948) Stage director. After obtaining a doctorate in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Oviedo, he moved to the University of London to study Musicology. As a Stage Director he appeared in Oviedo, his hometown, in 1980 with Verdi's La Traviata. Ten years later he was appointed Director of the Teatro de la Zarzuela, a position he would hold until December 1999. In this theater he made his debut as Stage Director in 1982 with Don Pasquale, by Donizetti, which has been followed by more than twenty opera and zarzuela productions.
He was Artistic Director of the Teatro Real in Madrid (2001-2005) and the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao (2008-2015).
His stage experience ranges from Baroque Zarzuela to contemporary opera, which he has directed in some of the most prestigious theaters and festivals, both Spanish and foreign.
In June 2006 he received the Teatro Campoamor Lyric Award for best stage direction for his production at the Teatro Real of El Barbero de Sevilla (2005); in May 2010, the award for “Best Spanish Artist” from the prestigious lyrical magazine Ópera Actual; and the Argentine music critics' award for "Best Show" of the year 2012 for the staging of I Due Figaro at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
Adriana Ozores
(Madrid, 1959) Actress. A member of one of the best-known sagas in the history of Spanish cinema, Adriana Ozores is the daughter of José Luis Ozores and niece of Mariano and Antonio Ozores. She began working regularly as an actress in her uncle Mariano's films. However, it was difficult for him to fly on his own and in the 80s and early 90s the theater was his natural habitat until at the end of the decade he began to reap the fruits of his many years of work.
Finally, Spanish cinema recognized her talent and in 1998 she won the Goya for "Best Supporting Actress" for Hour of the Brave. Since then he has not left the front line, collecting applause from critics and the public with films such as Manolito Gafotas (1999), Ask the King to Account (2000), Nobody's Life (2002), Sleeping Luck (2003), The Method (2005), Heroine (2005), Born to Suffer (2010), Close to Your House (2016), Thi Mai, Heading to Vietnam (2017), among others. However, the general public mainly associates her with her outstanding roles in the series Los hombres de Paco, Gran Hotel or Velvet Comunicación, in which she co-stars between 2005 and 2019.
Emma Suarez
(Madrid, 1964) Actress. In 1982 he debuted in the theater with The Cemetery of the Birds, a work by Antonio Gala in which he shared the bill with Irene Gutiérrez Caba and Encarna Paso. In 1986 he participated with Concha Cuetos in the TVE series Tristeza de amor. Her first leading role as an actress came in 1989 in La blanca paloma, by Juan Miñón.
During the 90s she participated in important projects such as Vacas (1992), La ardilla rojo (1993) and Tierra (1996), directed by Julio Medem, and in El perro del hortelano (1996), by Pilar Miró, with which she won the Goya for "Best Actress", and Your name poisons my dreams (1997), by the same director.
In her television work, she is remembered for Sadness of Love, Dear Teacher, The Swamp, Tell Me How It Happened and Manhunters, among others.
At the 2016 Goya Awards, she was recognized with two awards: "Lead Actress" for Julieta, by Pedro Almodóvar, and "Supporting Actress" for The Next Skin, by Isaki Lacuesta. She is also nominated on 3 other occasions.
Pilar Lladó
Collector and patron. President of the Friends of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía Foundation and member of the International Patronage Council of the Museum itself. He is a contemporary art collector. Very active and dedicated to supporting Spanish art and cultural institutions.
His work in attracting collectors and companies to support the Reina Sofía Museum has been enormous.
At a time when, due to the economic crisis of 2008, the Museum's resources for the acquisition of works of art were reduced, she knew how to put all her intelligence and energy so that some of the most important contemporary art collectors donated works and contributed resources. This has not been an impediment, but quite the opposite, in ensuring that the Friends Foundation has reached the entire world and has become, in a very short time, a meeting place for very diverse audiences.
Laura Garcia Lorca
(New York, 1953) President of the Board of Trustees of the Federico García Lorca Foundation. From the Presidency of the García Lorca Foundation, in Madrid and Granada, and from the Directorate of the Huerta de San Vicente (1995 to 2005), he has promoted the conservation and dissemination of the literary legacy and artistic heritage of Federico García Lorca. It has created a place of meeting and exchange between artists from different generations and countries, and from various specialties and artistic currents around the figure of a poet who in many ways means and summarizes the defense of freedoms against the rise of totalitarianism.
She has been a great promoter of the exchange of views between Spain and Latin America, as well as the projection of both in New York culture.
Antonio Resines
(Torrelavega, Cantabria, 1954) Actor. He began his career as an actor in Madrid, where he coincided with Fernando Trueba studying Information Sciences at the Complutense University, participating in Ópera prima (1980), the director's debut. He then began to work for film and television, with other directors such as Manuel Iborra. Among her first films are The Duck Dance (1989) or How to Be a Woman and Not Die Trying (1991), as well as the thriller Todo por la pasta (1991) by Enrique Urbizu. Already then he won his first Silver "Fotogramas" for Eva and Adán, a marriage agency. Shortly after, he presented the program Indiscreet Objective with Anabel Alonso, with whom he met again in Losthieves go to the office. At the end of the decade, he turned his career around with films such as The Good Star (1997) by Ricardo Franco or Secondary Roads (1997) by Emilio Martínez Lázaro. In 1998 he won the Goya for "Best Male Lead Performance" and participated in The Girl in Your Eyes (1998), as well as in television series. In 2001 he led the cast of Enrique Urbizu's La Caja 507, and participated in Marujas Assassines. New successes then followed, such as El oro de Moscow (2003) by Jesús Bonilla and the series Los Serrano, with record audiences in 2004. After films such as Otro Días Venrán (2005) or La dama boba (2006), he participated in 2009 in the film Celda 211 by Daniel Monzón, which earned him his third Goya nomination. Between 2015 and 2016, he assumed the position of president of the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.
Film and Law Collection of the Tirant lo Blanch publishing house
The “Cinema and Law” Collection was born promoted by Javier de Lucas and edited by Candelaria López and Salvador Vives with two fundamental objectives: on the one hand, to relate art (cinema) with justice and law and, on the other hand, to highlight and study the problems and challenges of Law through Cinema, with another perspective and language.
This collection has been published continuously since 2002 and nearly 60 titles have been published that address such relevant topics as the death penalty, euthanasia, genocide, discrimination, torture, murder, prostitution... through the analysis, exegesis and study of many other films: from The Executioner (1963), through Blade Runner (1982) to Anatomy of a Murder (1959), The Silence of the Lambs (1991) or The Man Who Killed Liberty Valance (1962). All of them written by lawyers, judges, prosecutors, university professors or jurists who love and know Cinema.
Sara Baras
(San Fernando, Cádiz, 1971) Bailarina, coreógrafa y directora. Iniciada en el baile flamenco de la mano de su madre, Concha Baras, emprendió su carrera profesional con la compañía Manuel Morao & Gitanos de Jerez. Tras participar en obras como Mujeres de Merche Esmeralda o ¡Mira qué flamenco! de Javier Barón y colaborar como artista invitada de Antonio Canales, creó su propia compañía. El Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras se estrenó en 1998 con el espectáculo Sensaciones. Desde entonces, ha recorrido los escenarios internacionales con producciones como Sueños (1999), Juana la Loca (2000), Mariana Pineda (2002), Sabores (2005), Carmen (2007), La Pepa (2012), Voces (2015) y Sombras (2019), además de protagonizar el mano a mano con el tenor José Carreras, Baras-Carreras (2006). Entre los galardones que jalonan su carrera están el Premio Nacional de Danza 2003 y el Olivier Award 2020 de Reino Unido.
Antonio Canales
(Seville, 1961) Dancer, choreographer and director. Born into a family with an artistic tradition, he achieved his first professional opportunity at the National Ballet of Spain (BNE), for which he was a soloist dancer, and for which he has choreographed two works: Grito (1998), premiered at the City Center in New York, and Blind (1999), a production with which he debuted at the Teatro de la Zarzuela as a guest of the BNE. At the head of his own company, he has premiered successful works such as Torero (1993), Gitano (1997), La Cinderella (2000), Ojos Verdes (2003) and Carmen, Carmela (2004). Additionally, he participated as a performer and choreographer in Sangre de Oedipus, premiered at the 2005 Mérida Festival and directed by Hansel Cereza. In cinema, he has starred in the feature film Vengo (2000) by Tony Gatlif; and is the author of the novel Sangre de albero (2002). Among the recognitions for his career, the 1995 National Dance Award stands out.
Miguel Ángel Fernández “Tinga Tinga”
(Rosario, Argentina) Acrobat and clown. He follows the same path as the clown Charlie Rivel, who performed until he was 80 years old. For 50 years, Miguel Ángel Fernández, alias “Tinga Tinga”, has been an acrobat and clown in cabarets, circuses, theaters and festivals, and for a decade he has been performing in the streets of Fuengirola (Málaga). He debuted in 2015 at the Grec Festival in Barcelona with Pals, a circus show by the Cíclicus company.
Simón Marchán Fiz
Professor of Aesthetics and Theory of Arts at the Faculty of Philosophy (UNED, Madrid). He has previously been a professor at the Complutense and Autonomous universities of Madrid, the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid, Las Palmas and Valladolid; and director and later Dean in these last two faculties.
Graduate and Doctor in Philosophy and Letters from the Complutense University, he has been decorated, among other distinctions, with the Official Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 2007, he has also been a Full Academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and a member of the Board of Directors of the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid. In 2013 he was named an Honoris Causa doctor by the University of Lisbon and in 2017 by the University of Valladolid. In addition, he has been the author of various publications. This award is a recognition of his work as President of the Board of Qualification, Valuation and Exportation of Spanish Historical Heritage Assets, the main advisory body of the General Directorate of Fine Arts in matters of movable property and the art market.
Valeriano Bozal Fernández
(Madrid, 1940) Professor of Art History, Complutense University, Doctor in Aesthetics, professor of Art History and full professor of Aesthetics at the Autonomous University of Madrid and at the Complutense University, where he taught until 2007.
Bozal is a historian and historian of Spanish art, specialized in Hispanic literature and history and, more specifically, in studies on art in Spain. He stands out as a scholar of the work of Francisco de Goya. Since 1962 he published some of his works in magazines, mainly on modernism and the work of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. After the Spanish Transition, he directed the magazine of the Communist Party of Spain, 'Our Flag', where he reflected on society and art.
He has been a member of the Governing Council of the Valencian Institute of Modern Art and president of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. He has curated various exhibitions on Goya and contemporary art in national and international museums. He has directed the collection of essay books La raft de la Medusa for the Visor publishing house since 1987.
María Dolores Fuster Sabater
Painting restorer, in the Easel Painting Section of the Cultural Heritage Institute of Spain. Graduated in Applied Arts in the Conservation and Restoration of Works and Objects of Art and Archeology - Painting Section in 1974, she is a restorer at the IPCE from 1977 to 2020. Between 1985 and 1987 she worked at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum, and has collaborated with the Sorolla Museum, the Museum of Santa Cruz de Toledo, the Museum of Fine Arts of León and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Arts of San Fernando, among others.
She is recognized as a specialist who has worked on painting on panel, canvas, altarpieces or on objects. Works by Anguissola, Hieronymus Bosch, Goya, Herrera the Elder, Murillo, and Sorolla have passed through his hands, and with works on works from the Gothic and Renaissance period such as two altarpieces from the Collegiate Church of Daroca (Zaragoza) or the caskets of the Tesoro de Fitero (Navarra). His bibliography, begun in 1988, includes articles in magazines and monographs that present the results of his work.
Carmen Werner
(Madrid 1953) Dancer and choreographer. Graduate in Physical Education from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Study Classical and Contemporary Dance in Madrid, Barcelona and London. In 1987 he created his own company: Provisional Danza. He received the Culture Prize in the Dance section of the Community of Madrid 2000. The Third Prize of the First International Onassis Competition for an Original Choreography 2001, with the work El tiempo de un momento. Mention Award from the XIII Girona Film Festival for the video in film format La noche, marejada de un cuerpo. In 2007 he received the National Dance Award, awarded by the Ministry of Culture, in the creation category. Nominated as best dance performer at the Max Performing Arts Awards in 2006, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
Teresa Nieto
(Tangier, Morocco, 1953). Choreographer and dancer. He recently celebrated his thirty-year career in Spanish contemporary dance. “Teresa Nieto in company” began in 1990 with the work Danza breve. From there, a wide repertoire of ensemble works and solos endorse the weight of this formation, highly required in the panorama of Spanish contemporary dance. Tánger (2000), Consuelo (2004), Ni palante ni patrás (2006) and De Cabeza (2007), are some of the examples of creation by Teresa Nieto under the seal of this company.
Gustavo Dudamel
(Barquisimeto, Venezuela, 1981). Musician, composer and orchestra director. Born into a family of musicians, he began taking violin lessons as a child. At the age of 13, as a member of his youth orchestra, he took up the baton. With an innate talent, he began studying driving with Rodolfo Saglimbeni. In 1996, he was appointed Musical Director of the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, where his talent was discovered by José Antonio Abreu, who would become his mentor. In 1999, at the age of 18, he was named Musical Director of the Simón Bolívar Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, made up of graduates of the El Sistema program. Dudamel began to receive international attention when he won the inaugural Bamberger Symphoniker Gustav Mahler competition in 2004. He continued his career to become music director of the Gothenburg Symphony (2007-2012), of which he is Honorary Conductor. The Los Angeles Philharmonic hired him as music director in 2009.
He has become one of the most prestigious directors of his generation. Among his many honors he has received the “2019 Classical Music” Award from the Konex Foundation, the 2019 “Distinguished Artist” Award from the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA), the Americas Society Award for “Cultural Achievement” in 2016, the Pablo Neruda Order of Artistic and Cultural Merit in 2018. Renowned publications such as Musical America and Gramophone have named him as their “artist of the year” on several occasions. He entered the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres as a Chevalier in Paris in 2009. Likewise, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela was awarded by Spain with the prestigious Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2008. On the other hand, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in 2009 by 'Time' magazine. Its upcoming projects include a virtual version of the YOLA National Festival, and the launch of its multimedia initiative 'Symphony', presented in collaboration with the la Caixa Foundation. He was the first classical music performer to perform at the 2016 Super Bowl show alongside pop stars Coldplay, Beyoncé and Bruno Mars.
Maria Bayo
(Fitero, Navarra 1961) Soprano. Chameleon-like and with broad musical and scenic concerns, María Bayo wanders through a very broad repertoire, ranging from Handel or Cavalli to Puccini, Debussy, Poulenc and Stravinsky, without forgetting that she has been considered the best current interpreter of many of the emblematic characters of the Rossini and Mozart operas. Furthermore, her interest in the Spanish repertoire has led her to record a large number of zarzuelas from all periods.
With a repertoire that includes almost 80 opera and zarzuela characters, his name today is a reference in terms of musicality, rigor and seriousness. Throughout his extensive career he has collaborated with some of the best current teachers on the most important stages in the world, from La Scala in Milan, the Staatsoper in Berlin or the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. He won the National Music Award in 2009.
Rosario Flowers
(Madrid, 1963). Singer and actress. The third daughter of Lola Flores and Antonio González 'El Pescaílla' entered the world of entertainment as a child, debuting as an actress in films and television series such as Al fin solos, Calé and Colegas. In 1984 he made his first foray into music with the mini LP 'Vuela una noche', although it would not be until 1992 when he recorded his first solo album, De ley. Two years later, he repeated his success with Sentiment. Despite the loss of her mother and brother, she undertakes an intense tour throughout Spain that consecrates her to the stage. Shortly after, he would release Mucho por vivir, a tribute to his brother Antonio that he captures in the song “Qué bonito”. After the success obtained with his first three albums, selling close to a million copies, he decided to give his rumbera music a twist, to fully enter rock with Jugar a la loca (1999), his first nomination for the Latin Grammy, an award he would achieve in 2002 for Many Flowers, which he would take on tour in America. He would return to the cinema with Pedro Almodóvar, starring in the film Hable con ella. His next album was De milcolores, awarded a Latin Grammy, which would be followed by the albums Contigo me voy and Parte de mí, 2008 Ondas de la Música Award for "best album of the year", which contained the single "No hesitation", with which he closed the Latin Grammy gala. In 2009, he released the covers album “Cuéntame”, soundtrack of the TVE series, which earned him a new Grammy. A year later, Raskatriski recorded in Los Angeles, which led to a new American tour. In 2012, he began his participation as a coach in the program 'La Voz'. The next studio album will be “Gloria a ti”, which would be followed by a tour through Mexico, Costa Rica and the United States. At the end of 2017, he released his live album “Noche de Gloria en el Teatro Real”, where he sings his hits and is accompanied by some of the best Spanish artists of today.
Peace Wall
(Cuenca, s.d.) She is a multidisciplinary artist, a pioneer of performance in our country. Her work stands out for questioning, in general, the role of women in contemporary society and, in particular, the subaltern role they have had in the history of art. An artist's artist, his work is unclassifiable and has developed mainly outside the institution, which he challenges in an ironic and subtle way. Her long career has been recognized in recent years, as evidenced by her inclusion in exhibitions such as Mínima Resistencia, which took place at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (2013-2014), and Feminist Genealogies of Spanish Art 1960-2010, organized by the MUSAC of León (2012-2013).
Marga Sanchez
(1944) She has been a journalist, businesswoman, gallery owner, collector and patron. In all their endeavors, their great passion for culture, personality and generosity stand out. Over the years he has managed to create and promote a very important collection of international conceptual and African “tribal” art. Without a doubt, in the field of African art the Sánchez-Ubiría Collection (this last name refers to her husband Sebastián Ubiría, now deceased, who started the collection with her) is the most important of its characteristics in Spain, as has been made evident on all the occasions in which it has been shown: Santander Art Museum, Alcobendas Art Center, Kutxa de San Sebastián, etc. Throughout his career he has always stood out for his constant and selfless support of public institutions and artists, through the donation of works, in the first case, and the production of works, in the second.
Royal Cavalry Maestranza of Seville
(Founded in 1670) In addition to the exquisite maintenance and conservation of the Seville Bullring, which bears its name and has the category of Asset of Cultural Interest, the Real Maestranza de Caballería of Seville develops a complete program of academic, cultural and patronage activities that transcend the specific field of Bullfighting: university awards for the best academic record of each center of the University of Seville; Ignacio Sánchez Mejías chair of communication and bullfighting at the University of Seville; sponsorship of the Bullfighting Studies Foundation and the Bullfighting Classroom, support for the Bullfighting Schools of Andalusia... In its rich bibliographic and documentary heritage dedicated to the Bullfighting Festival, the collection of bullfighting posters stands out, spanning from the first half of the 18th century to the present day.
On the 350th founding anniversary of the institution, it is proposed to award the gold medal of Fine Arts to the Royal Maestranza de Caballería of Seville for the extensive and meritorious work it carries out in the set of academic, cultural, artistic and patronage activities, linked to Bullfighting as a manifestation of the Spanish intangible cultural Heritage.
Marcial Pons Editorial
Founded in 1990 with the aim of offering editions of high scientific value and careful editing, focusing on the translation into Spanish of the best international doctrine and introducing doctrinal currents into Spain that have influenced subsequent national and Latin American legal schools. With nearly 1000 titles, it publishes in Spain, Argentina and Brazil. In 2000, Marcial Pons Ediciones de Historia was created. Both editorial lines, legal and history, have established themselves as essential in the academic and professional world. It exemplifies a Spanish family publishing house with an international vocation and whose inalienable principle is quality. Added to this is the Marcial Pons Bookstore, which was founded in 1948 and has received, among others, the gold medal for Merit for Work.
Marcial Pons Abejer (Calatayud, 1915-Madrid, 2011) from Zaragoza was the driving force behind this publishing activity. He was established in 1948 as an independent bookseller in a small store in the Plaza de Callao area of Madrid, shortly after moving to Bárbara de Braganza Street. This is how Marcial Pons was born, a specialized bookstore born with a clear idea of specialization. In 2018 he turned 70 years old and among the distinctions obtained, the Gold Medal for Merit at Work and the Medal of Honor from the Carlos III University stand out. In 1990 Marcial Pons founded his first publishing house Ediciones Jurídicas y Sociales, S.A.
Manolo Garcia
(Barcelona, 1955) Musician. He is an unavoidable character in pop music in Spanish, a singer and composer with a long career and one of its most admired and loved figures. From a humble family, son of immigrants from La Mancha, his first vocation was the fine arts. His paintings and photographs have been exhibited on several occasions. Later, always self-taught, he became interested in music, while working in various jobs. His beginnings were with groups like Los Rápidos and Los Burros in the early eighties.
The recognition of the general public came to him through the group El Último de la Fila, together with Quimi Portet. The formula for the success of El Último de la Fila was based on its particular rhythms, in which the influence of flamenco stands out, and its famous surrealist lyrics, as seen in already legendary albums such as Enemigos de lo ajeno or Astronomía reasonable.
After the group's dissolution in the mid-nineties, he began his solo career with Arena in his pockets, selling more than 100,000 records in its first week, demonstrating that the public's appreciation was going to continue in his solo career. Manolo García has been awarded numerous awards that recognize his brilliant musical work.
Emilio Lledó
(Seville 1927). Doctor in 1956 from the University of Madrid, with the thesis The concept "Poíesis" in Greek philosophy and Full Professor of the National Institutes of Secondary Education of Spain, after returning as a Spanish reader at the University of Heidelberg, in 1962 he resumed teaching in Valladolid, to obtain the chair of Fundamentals of Philosophy and History of the University's philosophical systems in 1964. from La Laguna until 1967 when he moved to Barcelona. In 1978 he joined UNED until his retirement.
Named in 1988 a life member of the Berlin Institute for Advanced Studies, where he established himself in 1990 and where he received the "Alexander Von Humboldt" Prize from the Government of Germany. He was elected member of the Spanish Academy of Language in 1993, occupying the lowercase “ele” chair, where he holds the position of Academic Librarian. In 2004 he was part of the “Council for the reform of state-owned media”. In November 2014 he was awarded the National Prize for Literature, awarded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Spain.
Quique Dacosta
(Jarandilla de la Vera, Cáceres, 1972). Of Extremaduran and Valencian origin by adoption, he has been developing his professional career as a chef since 1986. At the age of 14 he began to work in the kitchen and delve into books, almost all of them by French chefs. At the age of 18 he began to visit the best gastronomic restaurants of the moment in Spain. In 1988 he started working in what is now his restaurant, El Poblet, (today Quique Dacosta Restaurante) which in the beginning offered Castilian cuisine and later moved on to local seafood cuisine. Start to build and contextualize innovative Alicante, Valencian and Spanish cuisine. He is the owner of Quique Dacosta Restaurant in Denia (3 Michelin Stars and 3 Repsol Suns), El Poblet (1 Michelin Star and 2 Repsol Suns), Vuelve Carolina (1 Repsol Sun) and Mercat Bar in Valencia.
