The European Commission will participate in the 5G Forum in Spain to share its roadmap for new mobile networks

In the opening session of the 5G Forum, the German Peter Stuckmann will address the European technological capabilities in the global race towards 6G, approved last February.

The European Commission, through its most important expert in Smart Networks and Services (SNS), the German Peter Stuckmann, will share with all the participants of the IV edition of the 5G Forum of Spain, which is celebrated May 4 to 6, your transition notebook from 4G to 5G… and 6G.

Stuckmann, who already participated last year in the 5G Forum organized by Medina Media Events, which has Panorama Audiovisual as a media partner, will speak in the inaugural session about European technological capabilities in the global race towards 6G, approved last February.

The 5G Forum is the most important professional event in Spain specific to 5G. Since 2018, it annually brings together the main executives, experts, national and multinational companies and university researchers on the 5th Generation of Telecommunications. The official agenda of the 5G Forum will be published on April 6, one month before the event, at the same time that registration will open for virtual attendees.

The proposal of the Joint Undertaking on Smart Networks and Services (SNS) towards 6G is part of the Single Basic Act which establishes the set of nine Joint Undertakings in Horizon Europe. There is Commission funding of 900 million euros allocated.

Stuckmann believes that "the COVID-19 crisis has demonstrated the importance of a resilient, high-speed communications infrastructure. Society's trust and acceptance in connectivity infrastructure has grown as we discover its benefits. And companies have understood the fundamental importance of high-speed networks and technologies to maintain operations and processes."

5G is a new technology that the European Commission wants to promote to modernize the economy and society, helping companies and institutions in fields such as industry, automotive, education, entertainment, healthcare, etc.

"5G technology and standards will evolve in the coming years as implementation progresses. Operators in 23 EU Member States have launched commercial 5G networks in major cities. 5G technology is expected to evolve into new 'stand-alone' 5G core networks enabling industrial applications such as connected and automated mobility (CAM) and industry 4.0," adds Stuckmann.

What is 6G?

6G systems will move us from Gigabit to Terabit capabilities and response times of less than milliseconds. This will enable new applications, such as real-time automation or extended reality sensing (“Internet of Senses”), which collect data for a digital twin of the physical world.

Research and innovation (R&I) initiatives on 6G technologies are beginning around the world, with the first products and infrastructure expected by the end of this decade.

In Europe, a first set of 6G projects worth 60 million euros under 5G-PPP, with the flagship Hexa-X developing a first concept of a 6G system complemented by eight projects that investigate specific technologies for 6G. These technologies will form the foundation for a people-centric Next Generation Internet (NGI) and address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Currently andn More than 50 research projects on 5G are being developed in Spain and the most relevant will be presented at the 5G Forum, the most important specialized and academic event in Spain on 5G technology, in which Spanish companies, multinationals and public institutions annually present their advances and pilot projects to society.

The first day of the 5G Forum 2021, on Tuesday, May 4, will be dedicated to the large national and international 5G projects, together with European and national authorities, and the world's leading multinationals, also introducing a global vision of 6G.

The second day, Wednesday, May 5, will focus on the progress of the 5G and audiovisual; and the third, on Thursday, May 6, at pilots that are being developed in Spain by companies and universities.

Another of the great novelties of this year's edition, compared to the 5G Forum 2020, is that in addition to the presentations, sponsors will have the possibility of holding question and answer sessions with invited attendees and clients, demos, webinars and One2One video meetings, with the new platform created by Medina Media Events and which was already launched at the 4K Summit 2020, the main world meeting on Ultra High Definition (UHD), and the Extenda Global last November.
