Netflix - J.A. Bayona - 'The Snow Society' - Filming

Netflix produce The Snow Society, first feature film by director J.A. Bayonne (The impossiblee, The Lord of the Rings (TV)) for the world of VOD platforms.

With a production signed by Belen Atienza (The impossible, The orphanage) y Sandra Hermida (The impossible, a monster comes to see me), and with NOW. Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques y Nicolas Casariego to the script, The Snow Society will tell the story of flight 571 of the Uruguayan Air Force. This flight, chartered in 1972 to take a rugby team to Chile, crashed into a glacier in the heart of the Andes. The film will tell how the survivors of the plane crash resorted to “extreme measures” to stay alive. It is normal that the story seems familiar, since it was adapted by Frank Marshall in 1993 under the name They live!, with Ethan Hawke as the protagonist. However, based on the book The Snow Society of Pablo Vierci, the adaptation will recover the Hispanic character of the fiction while maintaining its global aspirations.

J.A. Bayonne gives more details of the production, which is already being filmed in Sierra Nevada (Andalusia), Montevideo (Uruguay) and in different locations of the Andes (both in Chile and Argentina) including The Valley of Tears, real location where the story happened: “It was during the documentation process for The Impossible when I discovered The Snow Society, Pablo Vierci's fascinating chronicle of the tragedy of the Andes. More than ten years later, my fascination with the novel remains intact and I am happy to face the challenge that lies ahead of me: to tell one of the most remembered events of the 20th century, with all the complexity that a story implies that gives so much relevance to the survivors as well as those who never returned from the mountain. Furthermore, I face it in Spanish, to which I return excited after 14 years without filming in my language, and with a cast of young Uruguayan and Argentine actors with whom I am enthusiastic."

The film, which will arrive throughout 2022, features a wide selection of emerging talent: Enzo Vogrincic Roldan, Augustin Pardella, Matthias Recalt, Thomas Wolf, Diego Ariel Vegezzi, Esteban Kukuriczka, Francisco Romero, Rafael Federman, Felipe Gonzalez Autumn, Augustin Della Corte, Valentino Alonso, Simon Hempe, Fernando Contigiani Garcia, Benjamin Segura, Luciano Chatton, Augustin Berruti, Juan Caruso, Rocco Posca, Andy Pruss, Esteban Bigliardi, Paula Baldini, Blas Polidori, Philip Ramusio, Santiago Vaca Narvaja, Emmanuel Parga.
