Studio Berlin - Remote Production - CO2

Since 2022, the company responsible for production services of the European handball league in Germany, Studio Berlin, applies a remote production workflow that has provided them with sustainability benefits.

Studio Berlin uses a concept of self -developed production for the parties of the Male EHF European League. The production format is HD 1080i/50, and only camera and audio signals are created in situ at the headquarters. Studio Berlin uses the MTI network supplier infrastructure to transmit the signals to the control room in Berlin Adlershof, through a bidirectional connection with a maximum bandwidth of 100 mbit/s. For communication between the control room and the enclosure is used Riedel Bolero, while, for the contribution of the signal, Studio Berlin uses the protocolo SRT. The signal distribution continues to be made via satellite; However, the SNG is no longer in the place of celebration, but in the facilities of Studio Berlin in Berlin Adlershof.

Thanks to the new concept of distance production, Studio Berlin has drastically reduced the production effort of each item, maintaining the same level of production. In addition, the concept offers other advantages: in some game days, two games of different venues occur directly one after another, managed by the same director and the same staff in Berlin Adlershof. In each case, only address staff, Slo, image and audio technology is deployed in Berlin studies. Another unique feature is that the graphics operator controls the distance graphics machine, either from the headquarters in Copenhagen or, as in this case, from the office at home of the respective graphics operator. However, this is just the first step. In the medium term, the sloms will also be handled from the Own House of the Operator.

The concept of remote production has an additional effect, and that is that through this method and the consequent reduction of production efforts in terms of technology, personnel, travel, hotel, energy and transport (the entire team of the premises fits in a sprinter plus a trailer), Studio Berlin can meet another important objective that the company has set: Reduce the CO2 footprint in its productions.
