Sencore Centra - IBC 2022

Centra, a comprehensive orchestration system that will allow broadcasters to manage their entire media chain from a centralized interface (either locally or in the cloud), will be the centerpiece of the broadcast experience. Sencore facing IBC 2022.

Sencore will take advantage IBC 2022 (stand 1.F72) to premiere the launch of Center, platform will mark the company's step to provide “solutions as a service.” This comprehensive orchestration platform will allow broadcasters to manage their entire media chain, at multiple levels, from a centralized and intuitive interface that can be located in the cloud (and therefore be accessible remotely from anywhere in the world), or through a on-site installation, as necessary.

The Centra platform will provide network management through a series of operating levels. The IBC-ready version will introduce the main functionality of the platform, that is, the reception, transmission and conversion of Internet protocols for optimized video distribution. Among the supported protocols are RIST, SRT, Zixi and HLS, in addition to MPEG sobre IP. The objective is to take advantage of the advantages associated with the protocols RIST y SRT in terms of reliability, low latency, packet drop compensation and forward error correction.

However, Centra stands as “much more” than a mere protocol translation tool, as it represents a “mothership” for the streaming orchestration, which collects, converts, aggregates, orchestrates and distributes as needed. Automation will be incorporated into many of the processes, communicating with edge devices to determine the ability or the necessary protocol, y later distributing on that basis. Consistent metrics that evaluate latency on network links will allow Centra Optimize transportation based on resources and needs.

An expanding platform

Beyond its main functions, the second layer of the Centra Gateway de Sencore will facilitate the asset and device management. This will allow users to determine at a glance the location, software version, license status and the health of your various assets, with the possibility of manage and update these elements (either through purchase or loan) through the Sencore store. A third layer of the Centra platform will integrate the Monitoring and analysis of the entire network, which will allow each kilometer of video transport to be known, pointing out an important range of possible error types, in addition to providing historical analysis for a more strategic evaluation of network performance over time. Through supervision by exception, Sencore's solution present at IBC 2022 will notify and provide users with a streamlined path for rectification, linking to the appropriate department, site, engineer or solution.

Thanks to the latest software and orchestration tools, Centra is completely scalable to the broadcaster's needs, with a range of bit rates depending on the device model or the capacity of the selected cloud platform. Future iterations of the Sencore platform will integrate an increasing number of third-party devices, protocols and services via REST API and NMOS, acting as a single coordination point through which broadcasters can access all the components necessary for effective and efficient network management.

Resolving IP problems

The central objective of Center, as Sencore emphasizes, is solve traditional problems associated with IP video delivery, that is, the undefined routes, latency, packet loss or corruption, connection drops, and the impact of bursty traffic. Centra will use intelligent and automated techniques network management to ensure reliable, high-quality video delivery, reducing latency, maintaining the highest possible security of content and, ultimately, delivering the quality of viewing experience that audiences expect.

All these resources provided by Center, as will be detailed at IBC 2022, are “accessible, intuitive and highly usable”, even for those who do not have technical or engineering training. As Sencore emphasizes, Centra's key point of differentiation (aside from its extensive integrations) is the low learning curve associated with its use. Through the creation of a graphical user interface easy understanding, logical and clear workflows, and the deployment of automation, alerts and assistants when necessary, Centra allows you to monitor all the components of your network in a “quick and easy” way.

In connection with the launch of Centra at IBC 2022, Aaron Doughten, senior product manager at Sencorenotes: "The development of the Centra Gateway represents our belief that we are past the days when broadcasters had to make trade-offs in their network infrastructure. There is no longer a need to make either-or decisions or experience unnecessary bloat (both space and expense) in video networks. A single, intuitive access point that orchestrates a network, accommodating a diverse range of standards, from anywhere in the world, allows broadcasters a greater flexibility, offers less OpEx and increases the reliability and quality of your content. That is what Centra represents.”
