The Aragonese filmmaker Carlos Saura, Goya of Honor 2023
The Aragonese director Carlos Saura, with more than 60 years of experience and author of works such as The Hunt, Hurry, Hurry, Oh, Carmela! o Raise crows, you will receive the Goya of Honor 2023 at the next awards gala, which will take place on February 11 in Seville.
Carlos Saura is the last name chosen by the Film Academy to be part of the select club of Goyas of Honor, among which there are also personalities such as José Sacristán, Ángela Molina, Pepa Flores “Marisol”, Narciso “Chicho” Ibáñez Serrador, Marisa Paredes, Ana Belén, Mariano Ozores, Antonio Banderas, Jaime de Armiñán, Concha Velasco, Josefina Molina, Mario Camus or Antonio Mercero.
Born in Huesca in 1932, Saura has been linked to the image his entire life. After abandoning his engineering studies to begin studying film direction, he directed several short films that led him to The Hunt, film with which he won the award for best director at the Berlin Festival. This film anticipated an extensive collaboration with the producer Elías Querejeta which resulted in memorable works such as Peppermint frappé, Cría crows o The First Angelica, also special jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Other films that he made throughout his career and that obtained recognition from critics, juries and academics were Hurry, hurry (1981), Berlin Golden Bear; either Oh, Carmela (1991), with which he won 13 Goya awards.
Carlos Saura has also recently been awarded the RNE Sant Jordi Award for Cinematography to the trajectory, the Chonorary gold ounce of the San Sebastian Festival, the Ear of honor of the Seminci, and the Biznaga of honor of the Malaga Festival.
