Aragón Film Commission attended 36 national and international filming during the last year
Aragón has become a sought-after film set. This is demonstrated by the 36 external audiovisual productions that have filmed in this community over the last year.
According to the data from the annual balance of Aragon Film Commission, of those 36 productions, 16 corresponded to feature films and series, 17 were advertising spots and 3 were video clips.
Of those 16 feature films and series filmed in different locations in the community, 10 were independent productions and 6 productions promoted by platforms.
The general director of the Aragonese Radio and Television Corporation (CARTV), Francisco Querol, explained that the filming that has arrived in Aragon “has generated 481 days of film activity with a direct economic impact on the territory of 4.8 million euros. Of them, 173 were developed in the province of Huesca, 67 in Zaragoza and 241 in Teruel." As he explained, this activity has a triple impact since "it generates wealth and employment in the territory, promotes the development of the audiovisual sector and gives visibility to the tourist resources of this community."
Of this activity, 386 days corresponded to filming in community locations and 95 days of pre-production (trips to reconnoitre locations and prepare them with work from the art teams) and disassembly.
The producers that rolled came from Catalonia (16), Madrid (7), France (3), Valencian Community (3), United States (2), Canary Islands (1) and the Basque Country (1).
Aragón Film Commission acts as link between producers and public and private entities in matters such as granting of permits and search for locations. In addition, it facilitates contacts for the hiring of local professionals. During the last year, the 36 external shootings made 136 hiring. Of these, 26 were locators, 33 technicians of the production area, 23 in the area of art, makeup, sound and electric and 41 runners blockers.
The AFC technical coordinator, Estíbaliz Centeno, he stressed that "the presence of the equipment of these audiovisual productions generated 17,774 hotel nights and demanded other different types of services such as hospitality, cleaning, rental of cranes and machinery, catering, rental of electrogen equipment, safety, carp rental and chemical baths, rental of vehicles, animals, agricultural services and locations."
The variety of applications has made it possible for it to be strengthened in 22 Aragonese regions, six in Huesca, eight in Zaragoza and eight in Teruel, with more than 100 different locations used.
Types of locations
60% of these locations have been roads and infrastructure. The low -density conditions of vehicles attract a large number of requests in the industry specialized in the engine of the motor. During the last year they have highlighted points such as the provincial roads between fifth and elbow in the province of Zaragoza and Villaespesa to La Cubla, in the province of Teruel.
Very closely the applications for locations in the Great natural spaces Del Valle de Tena or Valle del Aragón, highlighting the Ibón de Piedrafita in the Pyrenees, the deserts of Monegros, such as the Jubierre Route, or the Turolenses moors with the iconic red clay formations. From the patrimonial locations, the Old Pueblo de Belchite and Loarre Castle stand out.
Among the productions between November 2021 and December 2022, welcome to Edén, Rainbow, chaos (Netflix), ¡García!, The Climb (HBO Max); Irati, Paul Urquijo - Vampire Academy (Peacock); Eden, from Estefanía Cortés; Mari (two), by Lucía Alemany; The Interpreter, from Guy Ritchie; Ashes in the sky, by Miquel Romans; Teresa, of Paula Ortiz; The devil charges it, by Guillermo Polo; The most kid's kid in the world, of Quentin Dupieux o Run, baby, run, by Tony Andújar.
In the section of spots Those filmed for Ami Paris-NowNess, Cupra, Alfa Romeo, Kawasaki, Harley, Nissan, BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Peugeot, Citroën or Springfield stand out. Artists such as Tamino, In Materia and the French rapper Lomepal have also filmed their music videos.
One year of management from CARTV
In July 2021, the Aragonese Radio and Television Corporation (Cartv) received from the Government of Aragon, the Warden Attention and Attraction Service Management through Aragon Film Commission. During the first months the first management and marketing tools were created, and in November 2021 the new stage of this service was presented. The first actions focused on promoting contacts with more than 300 industry professionals, from professional locators, production directors and responsible for film and advertising film producers.
That contact immediately generated a High level of activity. The requests that have arrived during this first year through AFC through email and telephone are more than 130. Most of them are advice requests on locations, suppliers and permits. More than 60% of applications have arrived from the Barcelona area and, the rest, distributed between Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza and France.
Among the services that AFC provides, one of the most in-demand is accompaniment and active location search. A total of 24 have been carried out throughout the Aragonese territory. This accompaniment is carried out when the production comes to Aragon for the first time and when the team carries out the technical visit, before filming. In addition, more than 90 references have been sent regarding possible locations based on the demands of the production companies and localizers.
The AFC file has grown with 234 cataloged locations (87 in Huesca, 71 in Zaragoza and 76 in Teruel) with aspects of interest for producers such as location, accessibility, available services, visual aspect, ownership and trends of the sector
At the institutional level, AFC has held numerous information meetings and opening of locations with territorial institutions such as town councils, regions, councils and different departments of the Government of Aragon. In addition, links and means of cooperation have been established with the Film Office/Commission services that operate within the Autonomous Community, so that the exchange of information and collaboration in the different attention to filming is common. Notable was the collaboration with Teruel Film Commission in the development of its latest Fam Trip of locators.
Attending film competitions and festivals is another common way of participating in the activity of the cultural fabric, as well as proposing and collaborating in training activities in the territory such as the courses designed with the Center for Advanced Technologies.
