RAI adopts the DVB-T2 standard with the support of Ateme and Enensys
Media distribution technology Atem y Enensys has allowed Rai Way, Italian television network operator RAI, start a project refarming which will conclude with the adoption of the DVB-T2 standard.
The transition to format DVB-T2 allows the broadcasters distribute high definition content with more signs efficient and resistant, while releases the 700 MHz terrestrial frequency for 5G mobile broadband. Rai Way launched a tender for the transition project in 2020, and Ateme and Enensys, who have a long history of successful collaborations, proposed a competitive solution with a low total cost of ownership. Through a socio local, they won the tender and the project began in 2021.
Integrated solution includes software-based live video compression system Titan of Atem for the convergent headend, with technology multifunctional software stream processing. Enensys, for its part, supplied the switches Seamless IP & ASI (ASIIPGuard) and network gateways DVB-T/T2 (SmartGate T/T2), which allow transmission SFN (Single Frequency Network).
Carlo Romagnoli, sales director for southern Europe at Ateme, celebrates the jump to DVB-T2 from Italian public television: "Viewers want higher quality experiences and to experience their video entertainment more intensely. The move to DVB-T2 meets this need by facilitating the distribution of 4K content, in addition to providing advanced functions such as HDR, HFR, WCG and NGA (...). On the other hand, Cyprien Galesne, sales director for southern Europe at Enensys, states that the company is “proud” to have played “a key role in this exciting project of national importance.” “Our synergistic partnership with Ateme on digital media distribution projects continues from strength to strength, offering flexible solutions to complex challenges,” adds Galesne.
