Blackmagic Cloud allows the documentary director and YouTuber Matt D’Avella Collaborate in real time to simplify the editing and production process of your videos, executed in DaVinci Resolve Studio.

D’Avella created his YouTube channel in 2007. In 2017, he decided to dedicate himself completely to content creation, which focus mainly on the themes of minimalism, personal development and productivity, which has allowed it to cultivate a community of millions of people on various platforms, and specifically 3.6 million subscribers on YouTube.

D'Avella divides his time between Sydney y Philadelphia, which is why it recently standardized its editing process on DaVinci Resolve Studio, to accommodate their growing team, which includes editors in Canada and the United States: “In just one month, we were all using DaVinci Resolve, and I was amazed at how easy and intuitive it was to set up.” D’Avella and his team trust Blackmagic Cloud to work simultaneously within the same project, which helps simplify the editing process. Through the function Blackmagic Proxy Generator, create a proxy file, which allows them to continue editing content without having to manage clips offline. They can then use DaVinci Resolve Studio to find and relink the footage with a single click.

D'Avella provides more details: "We all work from local drives with similar file paths, although we can collaborate remotely on the same project simultaneously. This is possible thanks to the intelligent multimedia file management system offered by DaVinci Resolve."

The experience of I Use a Dumb Phone for 30 Days

Facing the editing and post-production from the video titled I Use a Dumb Phone for 30 Days, which has accumulated 1.9 million views, D'Avella and his team were able to shorten the editing process by several hours by using DaVinci Resolve and Blackmagic Cloud. D'Avella recorded all the video material alone and later shared the proxy files with the team to access them remotely: "When I was in Sydney, the team on the east coast of the United States would start editing, and when I woke up the next day, I could pick up where they left off. This dynamic in Blackmagic Cloud really sped up the editing process immediately, as we were able to complete a video in four days, instead of the two weeks it used to take us."

Before use DaVinci Resolve Studio, D’Avella was responsible for editing 90% of his videos. Now, this work dynamic has become more collaborative, efficient and fast: "Before DaVinci Resolve Studio, the main challenge was finding a workflow that didn't waste so much of my time. The team used two different editing platforms and a third site to share clips and comments on them. It was very difficult to communicate any changes, and we would have up to five or six versions of a single video. I found it much easier to edit myself, because of how frustrating this dynamic was."

"Thanks to DaVinci Resolve Studio, I can now collaborate with the team without any inconvenience, speed up the creation of videos and, consequently, share better content than before. It is a totally innovative process!", concludes D'Avella.
