Airbus, Eutelsat, Hispasat, SES and Thales seek to build the IRIS2 constellation
The participation of private capital in the future European IRIS satellite constellation2 (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security) of the European Commission has opened its bidding process, to which an open consortium of companies led by Airbus, Eutelsat, Hispasat, SES y Thales.
The consortium, which will also have a core team made up of Deutsche Telekom, OHB, Orange, Hisdesat, Telespazio y Thales, seek to shape this European next-generation satellite constellation based on a multi-orbit architecture that is interoperable with the terrestrial ecosystem.
The partnership will establish a highly qualified European telecommunications and space team made up of representatives of these companies to take advantage of their experience and capabilities in the field of solutions secure satellite communications. The consortium will encourage start-ups, mid-caps and SMEs to join this association, which seeks to build a European space sector “more innovative and competitive for the emergence of new business models.”
Another objective of this union of Airbus Defense and Space, Eutelsat, Hispasat, SES and Thales Alenia Space for IRIS2 is to encourage collaboration between all European space actors de la cadena de valor de la conectividad para permitir la autonomía estratégica de la UE mediante la prestación de servicios gubernamentales soberanos, seguros y resilientes que protejan a los ciudadanos europeos.
