Filming begins on 'Saben That', a feature film by Trueba about the comedian Eugenio
Warner Bros Pictures filming of 'Saben That' has begun, a production of Ikiru Films, Atresmedia Cinema y The Terrace Films, with the participation of Atresmedia, Movistar+, HBO Max, TVC and the collaboration of ICEC, which under the direction of David Trueba will narrate the first years of comedian Eugenio's career.
They know that one will take viewers to Barcelona in the 60s and 70s to show the genesis of Eugenio, comedian who will be played by David Verdaguer with Carolina Yuste as Conchita, the comedian's first wife.
From a script Albert Espinosa, based on the books Eugenio y They know what he says, by Gerard Jofra, son of the popular comedian, the film will feature music by Andrea Motis, who has adapted the songs performed by Carolina Yuste and David Verdaguer in the film. The cast is completed by Pedro Casablanc, Marina Salas and Ramon Fontserè along with several characters who were part of Eugenio's professional environment and who play themselves.
David Trueba, director of the film, defines They know that one as a "film about humor" and "survival": "Eugenio was one of the most popular comedians of the transition. Everything about his appearance showed that he was at odds with humor. A serious man, with no gestures, sheltered behind smoked glasses and a black shirt, with a smoking cigarette behind a microphone, would become the culprit of making an entire country laugh. But what was hidden inside him?"
Synopsis of They know The One
This is the synopsis that Atresmedia Cine has shared about They know that one:
"Barcelona, the end of the 60s. Eugenio Jofra, a young jeweler, meets Conchita on a bus. The crush is instantaneous and the two begin the love story of their lives. Eugenio learns to play the guitar to accompany Conchita in her musical career, for which he will have to fight against stage fright. Thus begins the musical career of 'Els dos'.
When Conchita has to be away from Barcelona for two weeks, she convinces Eugenio to carry out the proceedings alone. When he returns, Eugenio has become a phenomenon of the city's underground humor. Little by little, between the two of them they will build the character: the glasses, the black shirt, the stool, the cigarettes and the tube glass, which will become an unexpected success in a depressed Spain that desperately seeks to laugh with that unique comedian who begins all his jokes with 'You know that...'.
