Cannes Carmen Carlos Saura 4K Mercury Films

On May 23, within the framework of the section Cannes Classics, the French festival will pay tribute to the figure of Carlos Saura with the 4K projection of 'Carmen', a film restored by Mercury Films.

The event, which will be attended by the filmmaker's children, Antonio and Anna Saura, and the daughter of the dancer and protagonist of the feature film Antonio Gades, María Esteve, will show a version in 4K of Carmen, provided by Mercury Films and whose restoration has been carried out in the distributor's laboratories, Cherry Towers.

Nominated for the Palme d'Or, and winner of the Grand Technical Prize and Best Artistic Contribution, Carmen (1983) constitutes the second delivery of what is known as the 'Flamenco Trilogy' with which the director and the artist Antonio Gades They started a new creative line in the 80s. The triplet of titles is completed with blood wedding (1981) y witchy love (1986).

Carmen It toured the world, so much so that it was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, becoming a success and a classic in the history of the seventh art, and of musicals in particular. Now 40 years since Cannes spectators were shocked by the discursive and choreographic play of the film, the festival is screening the film again in The Beach Cinema with a remastering supervised by the director himself.
