IV Showcase RTVE - Toledo - Fiction

From June 27 to 29, Toledo hosted representatives of the global audiovisual industry at the IV Showcase market in RTVE, in which numerous fiction formats have been revealed that will soon be released on Spanish public television.

Content and acquisitions directors of the international audiovisual market have learned about the latest news and fiction projects from RTVE in the fourth edition of its Showcase, held from June 27 to 29 in Toledo under the motto 'The content you want' and which has included discussion tables with showrunners, directors, actors, producers and programmers.

At the inauguration, Marta Torralvo, corporate director of RTVE, has highlighted RTVE's commitment to quality, credibility, innovation, gender diversity and attention to all audiences. Furthermore, he highlighted that RTVE "has known how to adapt to the times and new forms of consumption, the production of programs of global interest, looking to the world seeking an internationalization that is increasingly necessary and finding the external support and alliances that allow us to grow and be increasingly relevant."

The Promise, the great television revelation of the season, has starred in the first panel, with RTVE's Director of Film and Fiction, José Pastor, and the showrunner and creator of the series, Josep Cister, among the most prominent figures present in Toledo. They have also attracted the attention of those present Operation English Quarter, a love story set in Huelva in 1940 with spies, Nazis and British; 4 stars, a drama of family entanglements with a dose of mystery; The Argonauts and the gold coin, RTVE's big bet for children, or This is not Sweden, RTVE Play's first original fiction that addresses the difficulties of motherhood and fatherhood.

The IV Showcase of RTVE has also hosted a debate table with the latest fiction projects of the Corporation. 'Coming Soon in Fiction' has been moderated by José Pastor, who has been accompanied by a representative of each of the five major new RTVE fiction projects: Fernando Bovaira (The Lawyers), Mariela Besuievsky (Detective Touré), Javier Olivares (This one), Humberto Miró (La Moderna Tea Room) and Gustavo Ferrada (Democracy).

Finally, the producer Aurora Guerra, the screenwriter Alba Lucío, the showrunner and screenwriter Coral Cruz and the director Patricia Ferreira have discussed the important role of women in the creation and production of content in Spanish fiction giving her valuable point of view in a panel moderated by Concepción Cascajosa, president of the RTVE Equality Observatory and RTVE advisor.

Global industry support

Herein fourth edition guests from networks and platforms have participated more than 30 countries, among which the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay and Guatemala, from America, stand out; China, South Korea, Lebanon and the Arab Emirates, from Asia; France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Slovakia, Romania, Albania, Lithuania and Cyprus, from Europe; and Tanzania, from Africa. Representatives of the main European public television channels also attended: BBC, ZDF, RTP, TVP, HRT, FRANCE TV and RAI, among others.

The main objective of the RTVE Showcase, hosted by the journalist Elena S. Sánchez, has been to show in an entertaining way what the Corporation produces and where it is headed in a global audiovisual world, “increasing the international sale of its products, giving a boost to its image abroad as a promoter of the Spanish audiovisual industry, strengthening ties with the main actors on the international scene.”

Rodolfo Dominguez, commercial director of RTVE, thanked the executives present for their attendance and invited them to the next edition to show them the upcoming content of Spanish public radio and television.
