Ross: master class dedicated to the cloud universe in Madrid

The auditorium of the Mediapro Building in Madrid has hosted two sessions in which Ross has been presented to the state broadcast industry to shed light on the world of cloud production with the collaboration of Unitecnic.

The AV and broadcast world has been closely following the evolution of cloud solutions for more than a decade. He does not look at the sky, but at the underground: at the hundreds of hosted servers by providers in protected data centers distributed around the world. Which initially involved astronomical outlays and implied insecurities due to a not completely mature Internet network or the lack of stability in all types of processes, today it is configured as a ocean of opportunities. The cloud, more versatile than ever, delves into the more traditional production transforming it massively or serving in small parts of the workflow, making it simpler and, sometimes, more logical, the operations of television and production companies. This reflection largely led and motivated the last journey of Ross in Madrid, which with the renewed slogan “Let’s make it real” analyzed the current situation of cloud world and highlighted how solutions ecosystem has adapted to its main vicissitudes.

The day began with the intervention of Oscar Juste, Senior VP for Global Sales at Ross Video, who reviewed the company highlighting, among other headlines, its “obsession with production”; the extensive catalog it has; its recent push to procurement level, with 19 companies in the last 14 years, or its notorious bet on R&D: of the 1500 workers distributed across 20 Ross countries, one third is dedicated to create, discover and improve its extensive catalog of products. Beyond the company's philosophy, Juste anticipated the 50th anniversary of the company in 2024, which will be accompanied, as usual, with celebrations and news.

Next, Felipe Garcia, a production workflow solutions specialist, conducted a interesting presentation in which the objective was “demystify"the cloud and make known all the parts that make up this universe. Questions such as the key suppliers of the industry; went deeper into terminology frequently associated with cloud business models such as SAAS, PAAS or IAAS; issues were analyzed such as regions or availability zones; light was shed on the different industrial offers of switching and storage, and their managed services, such as databases or the very important load balancing.

Immediately afterwards, García, with the collaboration of Manuel Paredes, shelled Ross's role in the cloud ecosystem, an environment in which the company continues to improve its products and services to unite “technologies, local and cloud sources” in a transparent way and create a “fully integrated experience”. With active developments in the field of broadcast environments for news, sports, live broadcasts or the educational world, Ross transmitted an important message to all those present: “With cloud production we are not lowering the quality. What's more: we are committed to maintaining it,” García stressed.

To meet these objectives, the company introduced part of its portfolio prepared for cloud environments, among which stand out Inception, Streamline Pro, Media I/O, EVO, Xpression u Overdrive. Precisely this last system, which offers automated production control and is compatible with up to 260 protocols of devices today, was the protagonist of an interesting demo of cloud production which was carried out by Andreanne Tremblay (Demo artist & trainer) ante la atenta mirada y participación de los más de 80 professionals present between the two days.

García He concluded his speech by reflecting on an issue that continues to concern the industry today: the price of cloud solutions.
