Belgian VRT equips a new multifunction studio with an immense Leyard LED wall

VRT has launched a new multifunctional studio equipped with an immense U-shaped LED wall, measuring 33 meters wide and 4 meters high, manufactured with VEM technology from Leyard.

The study of public broadcasters in the Flemish Community of Belgium promises to usher in a wave of creativity, efficiency and accessibility in the production process. It will also allow you to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving media landscape and fully explore the potential of virtual technologies for broadcasting.

Stijn Lehaen, General Director of Technology and Infrastructure at VRT NWS, explains "this multifunctional studio is the logical continuation of the innovation work that VRT has been carrying out in recent years. We have been researching and testing how, among other things, gaming technology makes virtual media productions possible. With this new study, we are turning the results of this process into a sustainable investment in VRT's production infrastructure. Furthermore, it is also an important step towards a new and efficient way of making media that we will fully apply in the new building.”

Improve the viewing experience

Following the installation of its news studio last year, VRT chose Leyard Europe for its new multifunctional studio project. Cris Tanghe, Vice President of Product at Leyard Europe, explains that "the VEM series was ideal for this studio design due to its slim design, which allows for a seamless, hassle-free setup in corners. Additionally, the VEM series offers redundancy in both the signal and power paths, ensuring maximum uptime."

"Deploying the VEM series in portrait mode allowed the Leyard Europe team, in combination with strong support from local system integrator Play AV, to create a perfect curved display. With a 1.5mm pixel pitch we were able to enhance the visual experience from multiple camera angles and deliver excellent on-camera performance," he adds.

“Leyard Europe's offering also includes remote monitoring of the entire solution, full front access, hot swapping of LED modules in seconds and high-end processing with ultra-low latency and genlock,” concludes Tanghe.
