RTVE Play launches video player and transversally improves the viewing experience

The video on demand platform RTVE, RTVE Play, relies on Next Generation EU funds to improve its video player, launch a new design and offer new viewing experiences to its users.

RTVE Play receive a new design “more elegant, accessible and functional” that seeks to “facilitate readability and elegance”, which is now available for all versions: web, mobile applications and connected televisions. This relaunch is accompanied by the launch of a series of technical improvements led by a new video player what reduces loading times y improves quality of the reproduction of the contents; allows sharing on chromecast y airplay; choose the language in which you want to see each video and select the subtitles; go forward or backward 30 seconds, and adjust the playback speed.

Another important improvement of RTVE Play is the possibility of start watching a live broadcast from the point the user chooses (up to two hours before the start of that broadcast), as well as creating lists with their contents favorites, download them to view them without an Internet connection and pick up the contents from where they left off. The personalization of the experience also reaches a new level thanks to the single registration: The viewer will only have to register once to enjoy the entire RTVE environment, including the website itself. Thus, all the programming of TVE, RNE and thematic channels, including the new channels of Tell me, We are Cinema, Crime, Period and Docs, are now available on a single platform, simplifying the viewing experience.

Finally, in terms of accessibility, RTVE has made the platform more accessible with the subtitled in the live broadcast of the TVE channels (La 1, La 2, Canal 24 Horas, Teledeporte and Clan) and the possibility of seeing those subtitles in the language they prefer: Spanish, English, Catalan, Basque and Galician.

Alberto Fernandez, director of RTVE Play, does not hesitate to affirm that 2024 “is coming strong” in the digital platform: "In 2023 we have had everything on RTVE Play, all the important events. And we have more and more interaction with users. In this sense, we are going to promote registration on the platform to be able to better transfer the content offer we have. Our platform is priceless, it is a free and quality public service, and adapted to the life of each citizen."
