Goolight renews its broadcast infrastructure with UHD equipment from Blackmagic
Various products of Blackmagic, including the ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K mixer and a HyperDeck Extreme 8K HDR recorder, structure the latest update of broadcast technology from Goolight, a company that provides cable television services.
Goolight is a cable television station covering the surrounding cities of Suzaka, Obuse and Takayama-mura in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Likewise, it provides Internet, telecommunications and electricity supply services in support of regional infrastructure. Recently, the company significantly renovated the equipment used in the cable television service, thus becoming the first infrastructure of its type to operate a studio compatible with 4K resolutions.
Shinji Yamadishi, director of Goolight's media promotion department, details the reasons that led the company to undertake this transformation: "The previous equipment was already more than ten years old, so it was the ideal time to update it. At the same time, in cooperation with the local government and the private sector, we planned new facilities with modern equipment, in a building in front of Suzaka station, where our headquarters are located. We decided to incorporate a studio there with the aim of disseminating information in collaboration with the local community, which led to the establishment of a new open type.”
After studying the market, Yamadishi decided to incorporate a mezclador ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K as main unit, together with control device ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel 10, plus a switching matrix Smart Videohub 12G 40×40 and a control panel Videohub Master Control Pro in order to distribute the signal. When recording and reproducing content, it was decided to use the models HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro, HyperDeck Extreme 8K HDR y HyperDeck Extreme Control. Goonlight also installed a wide variety of monitors SmartView 4K and processors Teranex OFF.
"When modernizing the studio, we were looking for a solution with the capacity to transmit in 4K 60p that would meet our needs for the future. In addition, it was essential that the price was reasonable. Taking these factors into consideration, we decided to invest in Blackmagic Design products as the main equipment," explains Yamagishi about the decision to use equipment from the Australian firm.
A new collaborative UHD broadcast production studio
The building that houses Goolight's studio is located in front of Suzaka Station, which is a congregation site for local residents. In order to involve the local community and disseminate information cooperatively, the decision was made to create a small studio with various Blackmagic Design products designed for streaming over the Internet, including a unit Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, a monitor and recorder Blackmagic Video Assist 7” 12G HDR, el modelo Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K Pro, a mixer ATEM Television Studio HD, a recorder HyperDeck Studio HD Mini and a device Web Presenter HD dedicated to Internet transmission. Goolight manages the equipment and operations from this studio.
The company has already used the studio for various purposes, such as recording shows and live-streaming festivals and the weekly news show. "We use HyperDeck recorders to play and record backups during live broadcasts. The HyperDeck Extreme 8K HDR model is amazing, as it has built-in graphics representations that allow us to monitor the waveforms directly from the device. The HyperDeck Extreme Control version was designed as a streaming unit, making it easy to use," he details. Of Gishi.
