EITB Media renews its camera fleet with JVC equipment supplied by SDI

Las Connected Cam de JVC, specifically the GY-HC900 shoulder cameras and the GY-HC550 handheld cameras, both with integrated streaming generator, become part of the resources of EITB Media after the integrator SDI Video (Sinopsys Integral Distribution) has been chosen as the winner of a public competition.

shoulder camera GY-HC900 is a hybrid ENG/studio camera model with three highly sensitive 2/3" HD CMOS sensors that stands out greatly for its powerful connectivity, making IP production a reality for TV broadcasters, greatly facilitating the traditional workflow. On the other hand, the camera GY-HC550 is a handheld model with integrated optics that uses a 1" 4K CMOS sensor and shares the connectivity features of the Connected Cam range, like the GY-HC900. Both models also have different recording codecs, including 4:2:2 sampling at 10 bits on SDHC/SDXC cards and, optionally, on standard SSD drives integrated into the camera.

The cameras supplied by SDI to EITB Media integrate the protocol SRT to streaming and H264 o and H265 (HEVC) and VITC, which allows video synchronization in reception. The cameras also have IP video return, IFB communication, and the TC is synchronized in NTP, so that each camera is in itself a small integrated mobile unit. This does not prevent parallel work with transmission backpacks, providing greater security where transmission coverage in the field may be compromised.

For streaming reception, the BR-DE900, 24/7 very low latency streaming decoders/scalers with 3G HD SDI output and 4:2:2 10-bit sampling.

Complementary solutions and training

Juan Carlos Cañamares, deputy to the management of SDI, has highlighted that the EITB Media public tender, beyond searching for equipment to renew its ENG park, pursued “complementary solutions to their current cellular transmission systems with backpacks.” “The Integrated connectivity in JVC cameras It meets this point, in addition to being an economically very profitable alternative that fit the requirements of a broadcaster like EITB Media,” he commented in this regard.

The integration of the cameras in EITB Media has been accompanied by some training sessions for engineering and for the camera operators, as confirmed by Cañamares himself: "They were interesting days on both sides since ideas arose. As an example, the reporters expressed the convenience of not having to be aware of the time code that the camera shows for their notes, since if the TC of the cameras is synchronized by NTP (network master clock), the mobile phone can be used, which also shows the synchronized time, in this way the journalist does not have to be aware of the camera and can work more comfortably.”

At the same time, Carlos Martínez, head of engineering at JVC, has highlighted the ease of use of the new Basque radio and television cameras: "Another important aspect that is sometimes not taken into account is the 'human' aspect, where it is undeniable that camera operators are the most important added value.
