Blackmagic Unveils URSA Cine Immersive Camera: 8K Stereoscopic 3D for Apple Vision Pro
The new camera Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive and the latest update to DaVinci Resolve post-production software open the door to 8K stereoscopic 3D capture and editing for Apple Vision Pro extended reality glasses.
The Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive has been designed for the creation of content in Apple Inmersive Video, a new “storytelling format” that takes advantage 8K, video 3D with a 180 degree field of view y spatial audio to transport viewers to the center of the action. Built on the new URSA Cine platform, URSA Cine Immersive features a fixed and custom stereoscopic 3D lens system con dual 8K image sensors.
The sensor of the new Blackmagic camera offers a resolution of 8160 x 7200 per eye with sync at the pixel level and a 16 dynamic range stops, so cinematographers can record immersive cinema content in stereoscopic 3D at 90 fps in a single file. The custom lens system is designed specifically for the URSA Cine large format image sensor with extremely precise positional data which are read and stored at the time of manufacturing. This lens immersion data (which is mapped, calibrated and stored per eye) then travels through post-production into Blackmagic's own RAW file.
The uniformly weighted camera body is constructed with a magnesium alloy chassis and a lightweight polycarbonate and carbon fiber composite housing to help filmmakers move quickly around the set. The system also has outputs 12G-SDI, Ethernet 10G, USB-C o audio XLR, among other connections. Likewise, the drop-down monitor has a large 5″ HDR touchscreen on one side and an external color LCD status display on the other. The right side of the camera features a dedicated support station with a second 5″ HDR touchscreen that allows the team to work around the camera without the need for external monitors.
And power connector 8-pin Lemo on the back of the camera works with 24V and 12V power supplies, making it easy to use the camera with existing power supplies, batteries and accessories. Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive includes a 250W power supply and a B-mount battery plate, so customers can use a wide range of high-voltage batteries from manufacturers such as IDX, Blueshape, Core SWX and BEBOB, among others. Customers will also receive a top handle, antennas for high-speed Wi-Fi, motherboard, 24V power supply, and high-voltage B-mount battery plate for quick setup.
Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive comes with 8TB of integrated high-performance network storage, which records directly into the Blackmagic Media Module included, and can be synchronized with Blackmagic Cloud y DaVinci Resolve media bins in real time. This means users can capture over 2 hours of Blackmagic RAW in immersive 8K stereoscopic 3D, and editors can work on shots from remote locations around the world while filming is happening.
RAW Immersive, cloud and post-production with DaVinci
Blackmagic has accompanied the announcement of its new camera with a new file format called Blackmagic RAW Immersive, Designed to make it easy to work with immersive video within your entire post-production workflow. Blackmagic RAW files store metadata of the camera, lens data, white balance, digital whiteboard information and custom LUTs to ensure image consistency on set and through post-production.
On the other hand, the URSA Cine Immersive is the “first commercial digital cinema camera” with technology Cloud Store Integrated high-capacity ultra-fast. High-speed storage allows customers to record at the highest resolutions and frame rates for hours and access their files directly over high-speed 10G Ethernet. The camera also supports creating a small H.264 proxy file, in addition to the original camera support during recording. This means that the small proxy file can be uploaded to Blackmagic Cloud in a matter of seconds, so the media is available back in the studio in real time.
Blackmagic's commitment to Apple's immersive format is completed with a updated version of DaVinci Resolve which will introduce powerful new features to create a comprehensive workflow for immersive video in Apple Vision Pro. A new immersive video viewer will allow editors pan, tilt, and rotate clips to view them on 2D monitors or Apple Vision Pro for an even more immersive editing experience. Additionally, transitions rendered by Apple Vision Pro can also be skipped using FCP XML metadata, providing editors with clean master files. Finally, export presets will allow for quick output in a package that can be viewed directly in Apple Vision Pro.
