Davinci Rsolve 20.1

Blackmagic Design releases version 20.1 of DaVinci Resolve, a major update to the program that provides support for the Apple Immersive format on macOS systems. This new version gives filmmakers the opportunity to easily edit and grade images captured with the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive model, as well as create visual effects, mix spatial audio and deliver content in that format.

Meanwhile, the innovative immersive viewer gives users the ability to flip images vertically or horizontally and rotate them for viewing on 2D monitors or streaming to Apple Vision Pro devices, providing an even more immersive experience.

Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, highlights that this update "DaVinci Resolve Studio with tools that allow working in Apple Immersive Video format in the Editing, Color, Fairlight and Fusion modules. Now filmmakers have the opportunity to create impressive immersive content that was previously very expensive or difficult to produce. The most notable aspect is that it is possible to edit and grade three-dimensional images, in addition to mixing surround sound with familiar tools used in 2D projects. We will love to discover the immersive stories that the “Users will be able to count on DaVinci Resolve, for example, from action and drama scenes to concerts and sports.”

Blackmagic Davinci Resolve 20.1The version of DaVinci Resolve Studio for macOS is the only option on the market that combines tools for edit, grade, create visual effects, mix audio and deliver projects in Apple Immersive Video format. Thanks to the possibility of Decode and play stereoscopic Blackmagic RAW files engraved in 8K resolution at 90 f/s With URSA Cine Immersive cameras, the program allows you to implement a comprehensive work dynamic when generating content for Apple Vision Pro devices. Users have the same tools that they usually use in 2D projects, which have been updated to allow them to work with immersive 3D images. These are present in all DaVinci Resolve Studio modules and include a new immersive viewer that provides the ability to view images on any common monitor, as well as an optimized spatial audio editor, and numerous ways to review and export content in Apple Immersive Video format for Apple Vision Pro devices.

The module Edition makes it easy to process images captured with URSA Cine Immersive cameras just like any other type of recorded material, with a familiar interface that allows you to drag and drop files. In turn, the new immersive viewer shows the sequences in their original state, converted to a LatLong (latitude and longitude) coordinate system or in a graphic window that allows the images to be moved on the screen. It's even possible to add a 360° background track that can appear outside of the projected immersive image.

When working with images recorded using URSA Cine Immersive cameras in the module Color, users can use all primary color grading tools, as well as specific ones for secondary color corrections. New features, such as the Edge Mask (edge mask), allow you to adjust the field of view recorded by the camera in order to exclude microphones and other objects that appear in the shot. In addition, this function provides the possibility of attenuating the transition between the projected space and the background.

Three-dimensional titles

In the module Fusion, now it is possible create three-dimensional graphics and titles that cross the field of view, as well as process USD files in order to generate immersive effects with a quality worthy of Hollywood. Popular patch and warp tools have also been updated to support surround formats. In this sense, the immersive patches They convert images of the lenticular space into flat images, so that you can apply patches, make retouches, and add graphics or text. By carrying out the reverse conversion process, its composition in the original lenticular space is facilitated. 3D images or composites made in Fusion with this immersive workflow are automatically converted from virtual 3D space in this module to immersive lenticular space in the timeline. Creating titles in the timeline is also made easier by correcting lenticular spacing and adding a convergence slider for title templates.

In DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.1 it is also possible mix and master immersive soundtracks in ASAF format (Apple Spatial Audio Format). In this sense, the module Fairlight It works integrated with Ambisonic buses of up to seventh order, objects and channels. The three-dimensional display mode has been optimized for the ASAF format and allows sounds to be placed virtually anywhere in 3D space, including object position, orientation and room simulation. It's even possible to import and mix existing 3D audio formats when creating ASAF content for Apple Vision Pro devices.

On the other hand, the modules Media and Delivery They have also been updated to include presets for exporting in Apple Immersive Video format. This configuration allows you to render an immersive project in the same way as a normal one, and then drag and drop the rendered file into the interface of the Apple Immersive Video utility program for macOS. Images will then be ready to play on any Apple Vision Pro device. You can also render ProRes packets to view them using the Apple Compressor application.

It should be noted that Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive It has a system of integrated fixed lenses that have been specifically designed to record in Apple Immersive Video format. The sensor offers a 8160 x 7200 resolution for each eye, with pixel-level synchronization, and an astonishing 16 stops of dynamic range, so cinematographers will be able to shoot immersive stereoscopic 3D images at 90 f/s in a single file. The camera's lens system has been designed specifically for the URSA Cine model's large sensor, and positioning data is accurately read and stored at the time of manufacturing. This data is calibrated and saved to the device, and then processed into a Blackmagic RAW file during post-production.
