Immersive MMG mixes and masters music content with Fairlight by DaVinci Resolve

Fairlight audio post-production tools built into DaVinci Resolve (Blackmagic Design) have allowed Immersive MMG (Immersive Music/Media Group) mix and master content for their clients.

Immersive MMG been using Fairlight, accompanied by a device Fairlight Advanced Console of five modules, since 2020. This system, which is an integral part of DaVinci Resolve has brought new opportunities to the production company's team, as its creative director Ken Mertz explains: “Grammy-nominated engineer, singer-songwriter and producer Matthew Shell contacted us when he was interested in creating covers Dolby Atmos for several of your projects. (…) He sent us the audio components in advance and from there we loaded everything into the Fairlight module in order to develop the Atmos mixes in-house. “He came to the studio and was able to make final adjustments on five songs and return home with the files rendered the same day, all thanks to the simple end-to-end dynamics of the Fairlight tools.”

Create these workflows based on Atmos With the Blackmagic tool it is very simple, as explained Chris Keeney, one of Immersive MMG's engineers: "We can create mixes with native integration in Atmos format and assign inputs and outputs to different hardware, IT equipment and speakers in the studio, all within the "Assign Inputs and Outputs" menu of the Fairlight module. The ability to swap the order of effects, dynamics processors and equalization in the Fairlight mixer provides more control when needed for a wider range of processes."

Blackmagic Design in the Immersive MMG studio

Beyond the audio services it offers Immersive MMG con DaVinci Resolve and Fairlight, the company has an audiovisual content studio equipped with a green background measuring 2.5 x 3 x 2.5 meters, two units Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and one Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. Mertz provides more details: "Acoustic guitarist Bob Coyne contacted us to record one of his compositions in our audio room. When he saw what we could do, he was immediately interested in creating a video clip to accompany his performance for the song. We recorded with the Pocket cameras and then edited and graded the images in Resolve, as well as the personal material that Bob contributed."

Immersive MMG has also taken advantage of the capabilities of Pocket Cinema Camera units when shooting content in vertical format for use on social networks. Because the screen automatically rotates with the camera when using vertical aspect ratios, the team can easily capture cinematic content for artists' social networks.
