Sony camera HDC-P50A

SDI – SMPTE ST 2110 hybrid environments will be able to benefit from the new HDC-P50A from Sony, a compact multifunction camera with a triple 2/3” 4K image sensor and optional licenses.

The new HDC-P50A inherits the base characteristics of the HDC-P50 and adds new features to adapt it to the main needs of the industry. In fact, Sony's solution has the same triple image sensor 2/3 inch 4K and prism than the HDC-5500 and HDC-3500 multi-format cameras, which covers a wide range of colors that includes BT.2020 y S-Gamut3.

The main differences lie in their compatibility with the IP world and the fact is that, in addition to the exits SDI of the camera body, the solution can emit using SMPTE ST 2110 with optional license HZS-SPF5A. In this way, Sony's solution is able to dispense with additional hardware to be compatible with IP environments and with the function IP Tally. Additionally, when connecting to the IP camera extension adapter HDCE-TX50 or to camera control units HDCU-5000 y HDCU-5500, the camera offers IP input/output and high frame rate. With its integrated IP streaming functions, the HDC-P50A joins the ecosystem Networked Live from Sony and can be connected to the CNA-2 Camera Control Network Adapter.

The new Sony camera, beyond being compatible with the HDCU-5000 and HDCU-5500 camera control units, is capable of working together with the IP camera extension adapter HDCE-TX50. Camera control units and IP extension adapter allow connections of up to 10 km using single-mode fiber, which makes it possible to use them in filming locations far from the broadcast vehicle system, for example, in golf broadcasts. When connected to the camera control unit, it allows recording in slow motion at a speed up to 4 times higher in 4K and even 8 times higher in HD.

Norbert Paquet, head of live production at Sony Europe BV, explains the keys to this development: "We are seeing a growing demand for high-quality video production in events such as sports and live performances, as well as an increasing need for automation and IP compatibility in live production. With the launch of this camera, Sony aims to meet the increasingly diverse needs of the video production sector."
