The documentary 'The Powers of Lolo' discovers the figure of the pioneer Lolo Rico

Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of 'The Crystal Ball', RTVE y Baleu They premiere at the San Sebastián Festival 'Los poders de Lolo', a documentary that discovers the figure of Lolo Rico, creator of the legendary program.

Directed by Nino Fontán and Itziar Bernaola y made by Miguel Alba Rico, one of Lolo's children, this production surprises with the story of a brave, pioneering woman who rebelled against her time and raised seven children alone while launching one of the legendary television programs in Spain.

Lolo's powers can be seen on Sunday, October 6 at Essentials, on La 2 and RTVE Play, on the same day that marks 40 years since the premiere of The crystal ball. This children's program was able to please children and their parents, and fostered a critical spirit in the youth audience that in just four years of broadcast left indelible memories.

The documentary shows the Lolo's most personal profile, through her children and friends, who portray a woman ahead of her time who did not conform to the traditional role assigned to her by society and fought to conquer freedom in a man's world. Javier Gurruchaga, Pablo Carbonell, Kiko Veneno, Loquillo and Anabel Alonso, among others, remember what it was like to work alongside Lolo Rico, a true discoverer of talents who gradually incorporated The crystal ball.

Innovative, transgressive and avant-garde, The ball It marked several generations, who grew up learning from the acidic scripts of the Electroduendes or discovering new musical groups that recorded their first video clips and performed live on RTVE. The program featured artists, barely known at the time, who achieved fame a few years later, such as Mecano, El Último de la Fila, Nacha Pop, Radio Futura, Los Secretos, Los Ronaldos, Gabinete Caligari, Siniestro Total, Golpes Bajas or Hombres G.

On the occasion of the premiere of the documentary, several “children” of The ball, like Joaquín Reyes, Raúl Pérez, Bob Pop, Mikel López Iturriaga, Mariola Cubells, Álex Corretja or Edu Madina replicate some of the famous phrases such as “I can't do it alone, I can with friends”, “Tell the bogeyman to think a little” or “Growing up is great”.
