Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K - Curél

The Curél team has decided to commission filmmaker Shuma Jan to shoot their latest advertisement, a project for which they have decided to use the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and the DaVinci Resolve software.

Curél, brand of skin care products from Kao Corporation con more than 20 years of experience, sought to achieve maximum visual quality for the filming his new ad aimed at areas web. To carry it out, the brand decided to contact Amount Jan, who last year also helmed a Curél web ad starring the students of the Tachibana High School marching band in Kyoto. On this occasion, and with the aim of putting the focus on its protagonist, the member of the Japanese Olympic sports team, Tome Narasaki, Jan decided to bet on the camera Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K.

Jan has been using Blackmagic cameras since the model was launched Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. “I always thought the image quality was excellent, but with the camera's full-frame sensor Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, the quality has become even more impressive, even though the sensor has not changed,” he comments, satisfied with the leap in quality made in this announcement: “Whether in shots recorded in Blackmagic RAW or during chromatic correction in post-production, the tonal gradation feels more refined. The low-pass filter also reduces false colors, providing a more natural, high-quality look. The cinematographer I collaborated with, who is very familiar with Blackmagic cameras, was also very excited about the image quality of the Cinema Camera 6K model. I think people who have used Blackmagic cameras for a long time will really appreciate it.”

Smaller ones often require wide-angle lenses that can distort the edges. But with a full-frame sensor, this is not a problem, and you have more flexibility in the choice of lenses."

Once filming was completed, Jan edited the material with DaVinci Resolve Studio. Subsequently, his colorist was responsible for perfecting the color in the same software: "I had no problems editing, but color matching was difficult because the clarity of the Cinema Camera 6K model surpassed that of the drone and action camera we used with it. The way primary colors, like red, look especially different due to high saturation, forced us to reduce this value in those images in order to achieve a softer tone, while increasing the saturation of the material recorded in "Blackmagic RAW to balance all the clips. The colorist commented that the skin tones offered by the Cinema Camera 6K model are incredible, and the chromatic correction was much easier to adjust," concludes the filmmaker.
