David Lynch, revolutionary of television fiction and one of the most influential directors in history, dies
David Lynch dies at the age of 78, leaving a redefining legacy of the film and television genres, and an extensive career in the plastic and musical arts.
Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Dune, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Twin Peaks, Lost Highway, A True Story, Mulholland Drive e Inland Empire make up a works team within the reach of a select few. David Lynch, a native of Missoula (Montana), interested in visual expressionism with a marked accent of his own, was in charge of giving free rein to his own imagery from the uncertainty. Works without explanation; sometimes, pending a serendipia that the filmmaker himself did not seek to unravel, especially in the last years of his career, dedicated to the designs of his dedication to transcendental meditation.
After experimenting with different manifestations of the plastic arts, Lynch discovered the cinematographic medium as a new form of expression at the beginning of the 70s. For 6 years, and together with a small group of collaborators (some of whom, like Jask Fisk or Jack Nance, would accompany him for much of his career), he shaped Eraserhead: a disturbing work with elements that would accompany him throughout his career. Since then, he has been developing a filmography interested in exploring the crudest approach to isolation (The elephant man), los secrets in full view of the American suburbs (Blue Velvet), your particular redefinition of the Wizard of Oz (Wild Heart), o to narrative fragmentation (Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire).
In between, between other people's scripts with better or worse fortune (Dune y A true story), contributed his grain of sand to the redefinition of the modern series with Twin Peaks (ABC) from the hand of the television producer Mark Frost. When self-conclusion continued to be the predominant tone of the medium, Lynch decided to promote a choral plot y sow mysteries week by week to capture audiences who, for the first time, theorized and made viewing the reviled small screen a social event. After a separation from the creative for much of the second season, Lynch was able to finish what is possibly the most special work of his career with the disturbing Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and a third season broadcast in 2017 in Showtime with elements of video art and a memorable conclusion for the most fans that will continue to give nightmares to the executives of the American network.
In the last years of his career, Lynch has not stopped creating from his home in Los Angeles, from where he daily shared his particular weather forecast, continued exploring his plastic aspect and, sadly, he lived in seclusion as a result of a pulmonary emphysema derived from one of his first loves: tobacco. On January 17, his relatives used their social networks to communicate with the following text the death of a true author, winner of the honorary oscar to a whole career in 2019 and palm of gold in Cannes in 1990 with Wild Heart: "It is with deep sadness that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and artist David Lynch. We would appreciate privacy at this time. There is a great void in the world now that he is no longer with us. But, as he would say: "Keep your eyes on the donut and not the hole." Today will be a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies."
