David Cierco: “the story of 5G in Spain will be a success story”

The general director of Red.es reviews the different projects that are being carried out in Spain at the 5G Forum.

David Cierco, general director of Red.es, has addressed in the 5G Forum Virtual the different pilots that are being carried out in Spain around new generation networks.

“We have more fiber than France, England, Italy and Germany combined and that is an excellent starting point for the deployment of 5G networks,” he stated at the beginning of his speech. And the deployment of 5G will be closely linked to the fiber optic network strength due to node connectivity.

Cierco has shown that 5G pilots that are being carried out in Galicia and Andalusia have brought with them more than 40 use cases. In a second call, the Government will support another eight new pilots. “It will involve deploying a total of more than one hundred use cases and that places us at the forefront in testing the technological, economic and social impact of 5G,” he stated.

The use cases that are being developed involve primary sectors such as agriculture, industrial sectors such as industry 4.0 or services such as health.

“Companies will be protagonists of the deployment of 5G, in addition to administrations with the support of public investment for the development of pilots, and deployment of infrastructure without forgetting the academic part,” he noted.
