More than a thousand AEQ commentator systems, key to the great sporting event of 2024

The broadcast of the “largest multi-sport event” held last year in Paris was made possible thanks to the deployment of more than 1,000 commentary units from AEQ, a company that has been chosen for the 17th time for this type of events.

AEQ has worked closely with Host Broadcasting Organisation for the engineering and the supply of comment system that should be used. As part of a renewal and transition to a more flexible and fully technology-based system IP, AEQ supplied a total of 550 commentator units of red AoIP Olympia 3 throughout the 52 competition venues and off-tube booths of the International Broadcasting Center (IBC) in Paris. This solution, which can operate stand-alone or as part of a multi-channel AoIP Dante/AES67 network, allows integration with AEQ intercom systems and can be connected to an AoIP commentary system matrix for large multi-venue, multi-sport events. For the contribution network to/from Technical Operations Center (TOC) of each headquarters and the IBC, he host broadcaster also used the XCore Frames of AEQ to transmit signals in AoIP format or long distance MADI links. The differences between the two systems are radical, since the Olympia depends entirely on XCore Matrix Frames, while the Olympia 3 has all the processing power “on board”.

The total number of deployed commentator units exceeded 1.200 in the 52 competition venues. The largest and most important venues, from the point of view of the circuits, such as the athletics stadium, they used the new Olympia 3 units. For support tasks, AEQ made available four engineers from Madrid to help the Host Broadcaster in setting up the comment system and in the operations of the Games.
