Film Academy and Spanish Film Library sign an agreement to recover cinematographic heritage
The Film Academy, in collaboration with the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), and through the Spanish Film Archive, an agency of the Ministry of Culture in charge of the preservation, research, documentation and dissemination of cinematographic heritage, sign an agreement for the restoration and enhancement of film works.
This initiative aims to collaborate in the preservation of Spain's cinematographic heritage, both in the field of feature films and short films, as in other relevant audiovisual pieces.
The Film Academy will assume the costs of the restoration and digitization of two works, while the ICAA will make the facilities available, and the process will be supervised by the technical team of the Center for Conservation and Restoration of film collections 'Carlos Saura' of the Spanish Film Archive. As compensation, the owners of the rights to the selected works will receive a restored and digitized copy in 4K.
The program is aimed at original works at least 20 years old, que posean una relevancia histórica, artística y cultural significativa.
The selection of the works to be restored will be in charge of a committee composed of five professionals, of which two will be proposed by the Academy, two by the ICAA and one of them will be an expert of recognized prestige in the film industry. The candidate works must be free of legal commitments that could hinder the restoration process and must justify their need to be restored.
Applications may be submitted until May 23 through the website of the Academia. To resolve any questions, interested parties may contact the organization through this email.
