UHD on CRTVG: the first stage of an ambitious plan

Our path began to be planned from the moment the date for the definitive shutdown of the channels in SD on DTT. The disappearance of these channels made it possible to optimize the bandwidth of the multiplex, thus beginning a plan that we have promoted in several phases.

The phases of UHD deployment in CRTVG

In your first phase, the focus has been placed on implementing the UHD simulcast broadcast of the HD signal. To this end, in collaboration with our network operator, the security devices have been installed. scaling and encoding necessary to broadcast that signal with UHD quality through the multiplex to the entire Galician territory.

In one second phase, our objective is to have the capacity to record and play in the system continuity those native contents that are produced in the medium term in UHD, so much recorded as live events. The benefits of UHD

The sign of TVG a UHD, in addition to offering a resolution 4K to viewers, has high dynamic range (HDR) with curve HLG which provides greater contrast, increasing the sharpness of the image. On the other hand, we have introduced the extended color space (WCG) according to standard ITU-R BT.2020, with a color depth of 10 bit.

In addition, an HFR rate of 50 frames per second, progressive, is used, in which CRTVG had already been producing for years, which has been an advantage when transitioning to UHD. For the signal coding, advanced coding has been used HEVC, with greater spectral efficiency.

A path that has just begun

The evolution of the industry and the new DTT Technical Plan has led CRTVG, step by step, to begin to integrate all the advantages of UHD. Beyond a transition in accordance with a national television strategic plan, it allows us to continue complying with our public service work.
