CRTVG commemorates the 25th anniversary of its first Internet broadcast, a pioneer in Europe
Galicia Television In 1997, it became a pioneer throughout Europe in broadcasting in real time 24 hours a day via the Internet, a milestone that coincided with the celebration of Galician Letters Day.
25 years ago, tvg made it possible for Internet users of the time to have access throughout the day to the broadcast of Galicia TV, its international channel. This commitment to technological innovation and a milestone in the opening of a new communication bridge between Galicia and the Galicians of the world.
After a brief trial period (April 1997), which was well received from Malaysia to Chile, tvg became the first channel in Europe and the seventh in the world to broadcast in real time. To connect, the user needed a modem at a speed of 28,8 kbs. That May 17, in addition to being able to choose the broadcast of the international TVG channel, users of the CRTVG website had promotional videos of Galician Radio y tvg, as well as a video clip of the children's and youth space Jabarín Club and an interview with Ánxel Fole from Lugo, a writer honored that year on the Day of Galician Literature.
That first action on the Internet 25 years ago was followed by many others, always in line with innovation in the digital field. Today, CRTVG continues to approach new languages to reach all audiences in the channels where they are, and to do so it is experimenting with new forms of communication and technological innovation. TVG was also the first network in Spain to launch a Youtube channel 24 hours and “the first public television” to broadcast successfully through the 5G technology. Regarding formats, the success of #DígochoEu in Tik Tok It is another example of the versatility of the innovative strategy of the channel, which was also the first to make “slow TV” in Spain with the program Destination Santiago in 2017
Recently, projects have been launched such as the G24.gal news portal, the radiogalegapodcast.gal podcast portal, and there has been a commitment to streaming on Twitch and Tik Tok as a means of communication with young people in the field of promoting the Galician language.
