South Series International Festival 2025 - Presentation Madrid

South International Series Festival, an event that will take place in Cádiz between September 12 and 17, has advanced a large part of the programming for its third edition, which reinforces its proposal with the creation of the “City of Cádiz” award and new alliances with organizations such as the UCA o to Writers Guild Foundation.

The Sala Equis in Madrid hosted the presentation of the event in an event that included the presence and participation of Carles Montiel and Joan Álvarez, director and former director of the serial event; Bruno Garcia, mayor of the city, and Almudena Martínez, president of the Cádiz council, among other authorities. Among the main novelties recalled in the presentation of this III edition of the South International Series Festival, is the incorporation of the Gran Teatro Falla and the Puppet Theater as new venues for the festival: while the first will host the opening and closing galas, in addition to the screenings of the Official Fiction Section, the Puppet Theater will be the main space for the Non-fiction, continuing the Congress Palace as the headquarters for professional programming, press and accreditations, and screenings of On.

As in previous editions, institutional support has been key to the growth of the South International Series Festival, which this year expands its scope and ambition with new venues and reinforced programming. In this sense, Carles Montiel highlighted in his appearance the creation of the “City of Cádiz” award, an award given by a citizen jury made up of representatives of some of the most representative groups in the city, thus reinforcing their involvement with the festival. This award reinforces the link between the festival and its environment, giving voice to entities that reflect the cultural and social wealth of the city.

Likewise, South International Series Festival and the University of Cadiz have renewed their collaboration for another year, with the aim of encouraging the participation of the university community as new audiences. The contest has also renewed its alliance with the Writers Guild Foundation, an official collaborating institution whose director Chris Brancato will offer a master class that will focus on the guest's professional experience as one of the creators of leading international television series.

South Series 2025 programming preview

The third edition of the South International Series Festival kicks off with a selection of titles that combine emerging talent, thematic diversity and innovative formats. On this occasion, the contest once again bets on a Official Section where the Fiction It stands out for its mix of international proposals and national productions with a strong authorial identity.

Canada arrives Crows, a series from the production companies Encore Télévision Inc. and Québecor Contenu, with a powerful narrative and disturbing atmosphere, which expands the margins of the psychological thriller, while from the United Kingdom it will arrive What It Feels Like for a Girl, a wild and anarchic teenage drama that Filmin will distribute in Spain, is inspired by the memoirs of journalist and trans activist Paris Lees. On the Spanish scene, the presence of two titles that explore new ways of telling stories from the personal and the urban stand out: She, damn soul, a Mediaset España series starring Maxi Iglesias, Martiño Rivas and Karina Kolokolchykova, which tells an impossible love story, which was already present as Advance in 2024 at the festival, and The Center, a thriller that tells the ins and outs of the CNI, starring Juan Diego Botto, Elena Martín and Israel Elejalde, championed by Movistar +.

In the Official Section of Non-fiction, South focuses this 2025 on A very heavy story, produced by RTVE Play, which reviews the recent history of music and counterculture in Spain through the groups Barón Rojo and Obús. Added to this is the confirmation of Making Manson, an American production from Renowned Films that delves into the dark legacy of Charles Manson through 20 years of unpublished conversations.

For its part, On continues to be one of South's hallmarks, dedicated to stories told from Andalusia. On this line there is When no one sees us, an original production by Max that delves into the intimacy of a community marked by inherited silences and invisible resistances, along with two themes as different as Holy Week and the military world. The Antivlog, created by Celia de Molina, nominated for a Goya, and which includes Bayona and Natalia de Molina in its cast, breaks the codes of traditional digital storytelling to explore identity in the era of ephemeral content, while what The Three Thousand celebrate life, starring the influencer and tiktoker Manuel Jiménez, offers a collective testimony from one of the most emblematic neighborhoods of Seville, betting on hope, culture and living memory as a form of resistance.

It has also been announced that the programming of this third edition of the festival will include new sections such as Revival, dedicated to great titles that have marked the history of television and with which a great surprise for the public will soon be announced, and Spotlight South, heir and union of the previous sections “Joyas” and “Panorama”, which announces season 2 of Crime and Law. Furthermore, in Advances The first one that can be enjoyed in this third edition has already been announced: Los Chorys, by RTVA.
