Jordi Hurtado, National Television Award 2025
The legendary presenter of the La 2 de contest RTVE 'Know and Win, Jordi Hurtado, has been unanimously awarded the 2025 National Television Award. The award, granted by the Ministry of Culture, recognizes the trajectory of the journalist and presenter as “a key figure in the Spanish cultural industry, with a coherent television journey, respectful of the medium and committed to the social function of television.”
In turn, the jury has pointed out that "it is a benchmark in the world of television entertainment in which its capacity for dissemination and its own communicative style stands out, marked by closeness and empathy with the viewer, in which intangible values of an educational, cultural and social nature are also highlighted." Furthermore, the jury highlighted "its ability to connect different generations at a time of great television diversification, reaching diverse audiences over the years and standing out for its ability to retain audiences."
The National Television Award recognizes meritorious work in the Spanish television field demonstrated through a work broadcast during 2024 or a particular contribution due to its creativity. In duly motivated cases it may be granted in recognition of a complete professional career. With this Award, the Ministry of Culture recognizes television as an essential tool for the dissemination of culture, as well as its connection with the development and dissemination of cultural industries.
He jury has been chaired by Carmen Paez Soria, Undersecretary of Culture; and as vice president he has acted Juan Melgar Jaquotot, director of the Cultural Industries Coordination Center. They have acted as members Cañadas River Pigeon, National Television Award 2024; Ignacio Camós Victoria, general director of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA); Blai Burgaya Balaguer, advisor to the cabinet of the Minister of Culture; José María Irisarri Núñez, first vice president of the Academy of Television and Audiovisual Sciences and Arts; Samuel Castro Hansson, director of Iberseries Platino Industria; Carmen Ferreiro Santiago, director of Entertainment Programs at Atresmedia; and Carlota Coronado Ruiz, doctor in Journalism, professor hired at the Complutense University of Madrid and specialist in audiovisual media and research from a gender perspective.
The National Television Award has been awarded in previous editions to the series Tell me how it happened (2009); Chicho Ibáñez Serrador and 23-F, The King's Most Difficult Day (2010); TVE Information Services (2011); Jesús Hermida (2012), Concha García Campoy (2013), the series Isabel (2014), José Luis Balbín (2015), The Anthill 3.0 (2016), Matías Prats (2017), Victoria Prego (2018), Essentials (2019), Andreu Buenafuente (2020), Karlos Arguiñano (2021), to the public entity Radio Televisión Canaria (2022), to the program Weekly Report (2023) and, in its last call, to the sports journalist Paloma del Río (2024).
Jordi Hurtado: a firefighter on TV
Jordi Hurtado Torres (Barcelona, 1957) is a Spanish journalist and television program presenter. Known and popular in Spain for being the regular face of contests on Spanish Television since 1985.
He gained experience in radio as a presenter of the program The radio in the sun, on Radio Barcelona, on Cadena SER, a space that won the Ondas Award in 1982. In the 90s he was one of the dubbing actors who gave voice to Epi, from the children's program Sesame Street. In 1985 he debuted on camera with the TVE contest If I know I won't come, which he presented with Virginia Mataix. The success of the program allowed it to remain on the air until 1988. The experience also marked his first professional contact with the director Sergi Schaaff, with whom he met again on other projects, among others, the first version only for RTVE's Catalan programming of the later popular program 3×4. In the 1989-1990 season, he presented the mini contest The Millionaire League, within the sports program Stadium Study. He combined that work with space The joy of the house on Cadena SER.
In 1991 he conducted the contest Pictionary, which had started in 1990 on the Catalan TVE circuit. In 1992 he presented game carts and in 1993, Let's play Trivial. In 1994 he coincided with Almudena Ariza in the presentation of another contest How do they do it?. In 1997 he joined Sergi Schaaff's new project, the daily general culture contest Know and win, who has been driving since that year in La 2.
Winner of numerous awards and recognitions, the Ondas Award for best national television presenter in 2012 stands out; the award for Best Communicator at the 28th edition of the Zapping Awards. And in 2022, he collected the Ondas Award for Best Entertainment Program, along with teammates from the Saber y Gan program team. In 2024, the TV Academy awarded him the Iris Jesús Hermida Award in recognition of his professional career.
