Karlos Arguiñano, National Television Award 2021
The jury recognizes Arguiñado for consolidating a genre that brings together television, gastronomy and culture and his contribution to the creation of loyal audiences that promote gastronomy as a cultural sector.
The chef, television presenter, actor, writer and businessman Carlos Arguiñano has been awarded the 2021 National Television Prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and which is endowed with 30,000 euros.
The jury, unanimously, wanted to "recognize in the creative personality of the winner the sustained continuity of a complete career in the field of television, with special relevance in the strengthening and consolidation of a genre that brings together television, gastronomy and culture. His contribution to the creation of loyal audiences means a decisive boost to gastronomy as a cultural sector."
The Minister of Culture and Sports, Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, has personally called the winner to inform him of the jury's decision and to congratulate him.
The National Television Award rewards meritorious work in the Spanish television field demonstrated through a work broadcast during 2020 or a particular contribution for its creativity. In duly motivated cases it may be granted in recognition of a complete professional career.
With this Award, the Ministry recognizes television as an essential tool for the dissemination of culture, as well as its connection with the development and dissemination of cultural industries.
Between the stoves on television
Karlos Arguiñano was born in Beasain (Gipuzkoa) on September 6, 1948. At the age of seventeen he enrolled in the Hospitality School at the Euromar Hotel in Zarautz. After an intense training journey that took him to travel to various countries, he founded his own restaurant in 1979, located in front of the Zarautz beach. Fully involved in the movement of the New Basque Cuisine, being a defender and disseminator of the principles that support it.
His relationship with television began in 1989 with the program Fourteen Chefs on the first channel of Euskal Telebista.
The year 1992 was key in Karlos Arguiñano's television career. This year, specifically in March, the program begins to be broadcast throughout Spain through La 1 de TVE. The daily menu, which in a few weeks has consolidated itself as the leading audience space in its time slot.
