Thelma Schoonmaker, IBC International Excellence Award 2025
IBC will present this year the International Award of Excellence to editor Thelma Schoonmaker for her lifelong contribution to the art and craft of film, spanning more than five decades helping to shape modern cinema through her close collaboration with Martin Scorsese.
Schoonmaker will receive the award during IBC 2025 on Sunday, September 14 at 6 p.m. on the main stage at the RAI in Amsterdam. Earlier in the day, at the IBC Conference, the editor will also participate in a informal chat about her life in film, moderated by the journalist and author Carolyn Giardina, consulting editor of American Cinema Editors' Cinema Editor magazine. The session will be free for all IBC 2025 attendees.
He has been at the forefront of innovation in film for more than 50 years, having helped Scorsese edit his first feature film in 1967 and collaborating with him to edit his creative vision in all of his major works since Raging Bull. His credits include Goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Irishman and, more recently, Killers of the Flower Moon. She is the only editor that has received nine Oscar nominations, winning a record of three Academy Awards by Raging Bull, The Aviator y Infiltrators. Schoonmaker has also won two BAFTA awards by Raging Bull y Goodfellas, and in 2019 he received the BAFTA Fellowship, the British Academy's highest award.
