Kairos (Panasonic), axis of the “first” 3D performance transmitted in 4K in real time: ‘IOWN and Perfume’

‘IOWN × Perfume’, a collaboration between NTT and the successful Japanese girl group Perfume, demonstrated the ability of the Kairos platform of Panasonic to manage the “world's first real-time 4K 3D video transmission” using the IOWN optical and wireless network.

The production, released last April, required the management of 3D cameras and the simultaneous execution of multiple systems. Traditional video systems would have required complex configuration and numerous devices, making operation and management difficult. However, with Kairos, operators benefited from flexible system design and real-time processing capabilities.

By accepting multiple signals 3D cameras through two 12G-SDI inputs, Panasonic's system allowed for seamless mixing and conversion to various 3D formats. The system was also responsible for managing the Compression-free, low-latency SDI-IP conversion, key to being compatible with the IOWN optical network environment. Likewise, from the most creative point of view, Kairos made it possible to manage the mixing, color adjustment, format conversion and IP conversion from a single drive, streamlining operations and minimizing hardware footprint.

Hibino Corporation was the company responsible for implementing this system in the NTT pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. Emu Hino, technical director of the company, highlights the role of Kairos (Panasonic) on the project: "Production required precise synchronization between numerous components, but Kairos allowed us to manage everything with a single unit. This greatly reduced our configuration and system management burdens, allowing us to fully concentrate on creative tasks."
