LiveU Matrix to form backbone of EBU IP news network
The European Broadcasting Union (UER) awards LiveU a five-year contract to deliver live news content 24 hours a day via the Eurovision News Exchange service using LiveU's Matrix cloud IP distribution platform.
This ambitious project represents a further step towards IP-based contribution and hybrid distribution from a system that previously only used satellites. The mission-critical News Exchange, renowned for its reliability and credibility of its news content, will rely on LiveU Matrix for the distribution of its members' live feeds across Europe and beyond.
The project connects all members of the Eurovision News Exchange with LiveU technology, which extends to more than 60 newsrooms of public service in Europe and around the world. Implementation strengthens public broadcasters' confidence in transport protocol-based distribution LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) with capabilities SRT. After a rigorous evaluation process, LiveU was chosen as a platform for its reliability and scalability. The project also includes the phased implementation of LiveU Ingest for cloud recording and content sharing workflows across primary and backup channels, currently in pilot phase with 15 members.

For its part, Piotr Kaszynski, program director for the renewal of the Eurovision News Exchange (EBU) live network highlights that "following a close and highly competitive selection process, we are delighted to partner with LiveU to replace the Eurovision News Exchange live distribution and contribution system. By the end of 2025, the new solution will provide greater flexibility and faster setup times, allowing our members continuous and reliable access to the Eurovision News Exchange live feeds. LiveU Matrix seamlessly connects the local and field units already used in News Exchange, which will strengthen collaboration and bring even more value to our members and partners.”
Dual Active Redundancy
LiveU's IP Matrix distribution platform is at the heart of this transformation, enabling seamless content contribution and distribution of live news between members and ad hoc sharing with other sources. The solution integrates 125 LiveU transceivers deployed at member facilities, with Dual Active redundancy which ensures that two parallel streams, through the cloud and the transceiver, ensure uninterrupted service at each location. This premium layer of Dual Active reliability enhances Matrix's ability to serve as a primary distribution system complementary to backup satellite distribution.
The plan of multiregional and multivendor contingency It relies on global cloud providers across regions, further reinforcing a highly resilient, multi-layered architecture. The solution also includes proactive monitoring, as well as the option to expand distribution channels for high-demand events.

Deployment began earlier this year and LiveU Matrix has already been used for major news events, such as the papal conclave. It will be completed in January 2026, when the EBU plans to Phase out your satellite contribution workflow and move to hybrid distribution and IP-based contribution. The official launch date of the new IP-based network is set for January 1, 2026.
