Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 film camera receives IMAX certification
IMAX has decided to add the new GFX Eterna 55 film camera from Fujifilm to its list of certified devices, confirming the solution's high image capture quality and its ability to film in the brand's exclusive expanded aspect ratios.
Featuring the tallest digital cinema sensor “currently available on the market,” the GFX ETERNA 55 allows users to record using the full height of the sensor (32.71 mm) in Open Gate mode, prioritizing image area and vertical scale, which are key attributes of IMAX. He sensor GFX Open Gate native 4:3 offers a canvas of large format, giving filmmakers freedom in framing while supporting spherical and anamorphic workflows.
According to Jonathan Fischer, IMAX content director, “the incorporation of the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 to our list of IMAX-certified cameras is a win for filmmakers and fans alike, providing the world's best storytellers with another top-notch tool for crafting truly immersive cinematic images specifically for IMAX. As we continue to expand the ecosystem of certified cameras, we are opening the door for more directors, cinematographers and production partners to deliver unforgettable experiences to audiences around the world.”
From Fujifilm itself, Yuji Igarashi, general director of the professional imaging group of the imaging solutions division, receives this certification with “honor” for “many reasons.” “One of them is that IMAX is a benchmark for ambitious filmmakers; we are very proud that GFX ETERNA 55 offers filmmakers an accessible avenue to create stories with an epic cinematic perspective,” he explains, adding that “Fujifilm is proud to offer filmmakers a system that allows them to create films suitable for the cinematic scale of The IMAX Experience.”
IMAX certified digital cameras are a fundamental component of Filmed For IMAX, a comprehensive collaborative program that offers filmmakers greater opportunities to make the most of every aspect of IMAX technology and provide the most immersive movie experience to audiences around the world.
