RED details V-Raptor 8K VV, its new DSMC3 cinema camera

The new range of solutions DSMC3 of RED write your first page with the camera V-Raptor 8K VV, now available.

RED rate the new V-Raptor 8K VV as its “most powerful” camera to date. The system boasts the highest dynamic range, fastest cinema-grade sensor scan time, cleanest shadows and highest frame rate of any camera in the RED range.

The V-Raptor features a sensor 8K multiformato (40.96 mm x 21.60 mm) with the ability to shoot in large format 8K or Super 35 6K. Together with its predecessor, the sensor 8K VV Monster, This option allows photographers to take advantage of any of their large format or S35 lenses and always offer a resolution higher than 4K. Likewise, the V-Raptor presents users with the option to capture full-sensor 8K up to 120 frames per second (150 fps at 2.4:1), 6K up to 160 fps (200 fps at 2.4:1), and 2K (2.4:1) at 600 frames per second, while still capturing more than 17 stops of dynamic range.

Like the other cameras in the RED ecosystem, the V-Raptor takes advantage of the codec Redcode RAW patented by RED, allowing users to capture 16-bit RAW and take advantage of both RED's IPP2 workflow and its color management tools.

Features and connections

RED's latest bet has a professional I/O matrix that includes two 4K 12G-SDI outputs, audio XLR with phantom power capability via an adapter, and a integrated USB-C interface which enables functions such as remote control or the use of Ethernet networks.

The V-Raptor 8K VV, with a compact size, robust, water and dust resistant, has among its most notable specifications an RF lens mount with locking mechanism; wireless control and preview via Wi-Fi; phase detection autofocus; and a newly designed integrated display on the side of the camera, allowing comprehensive controls such as in-camera format selection, custom buttons, status updates, etc.
