RED unveils the V-Raptor XE camera at IBC 2025, “essential” version of the V-Raptor
The Z Cinema range of cameras RED receives a new model designed for independent creators and which is being shown to the public for the first time in IBC 2025 (September 12-15): The V-Raptor XE, a streamlined version of the V-Raptor
The new camera retains the large format global shutter sensor 8K which is found in the V-Raptor This model, which receives the letter E for “Essential”, is aimed, in the words of Keiji Oishi, CEO of RED, to “independent filmmakers, documentary filmmakers, commercial filmmakers and storytellers who need cinema-quality images without the need for all the advanced functions offered by a full-featured model.”
Despite this “simplified” version, the camera offers top-notch features that sometimes improve their older sister, like a Significantly reduced boot time and power consumption with the next firmware update. In addition, the V-Raptor XE stands out for its 17 step filter, a compact body of just over 1,8 kg, accessory compatibility V-Raptor and two versions: montura RF o montura Nikon Z.
The latest development of RED will be available from October and can also be purchased with the Cine Essentials package, which includes the XE camera, a PL package with electronic ND filter adapter, a 7.0″ DSMC3 RED Touch LCD screen and the Outrigger handle. In addition, current owners of the Komodo and Komodo-X will be able to exchange the camera to obtain discounts towards the purchase of the V-Raptor XE or V-Raptor
The Cine-Broadcast module returns to IBC 2025 with new features
RED is also exhibiting at IBC 2025 a solution that supports live broadcasting of up to two 4K 60P channels (HDR/SDR) over 12G-SDI and IP broadcasts supporting SMPTE ST 2110 (TR-08) and up to one signal JPEG-XS de 4K 60P. In this way, the brand offers a way to carry the increasingly desired cinematic look at broadcast productions. The system consists of a robust Lemo hybrid fiber optic cable connector SMPTE 311M/304M connected to a 2U full rack mountable base station or 4U half rack mountable base station.
The cine-broadcast module expands the advanced slow motion workflows, AI/ML improvements and streaming R3D 8K 120 FPS in real time through the RED Connect license-enabled feature. In addition, it has advanced processes such as Broadcast Color, which facilitates live painting of RED cameras in broadcast or streaming environments and allows on-demand adjustments and color matching between multiple cameras using traditional broadcast controls.
Already used in top-level productions for CBS Sports, NBC Sports Group y MotoAmerica, the system debuts its integration with the live production server at IBC 2025 XT-VIA of EVS, which allows broadcasters to enhance their workflows with up to 4x super slow motion in 4K and 8x in 1080p, while offering two baseband channels simultaneously.
