DJI unveils the Ronin 4D-8K cinema camera, the umpteenth evolution of the Ronin platform

Directly defined as a “multifunctional cinema camera”, Ronin 4D-8K brings together the most advanced technologies of the DJI with new cinematographic possibilities that seek to offer “revolutionary flexibility to filmmakers.”

He DJI Ronin 4D-8K, with four-axis stability and the ability to record in 8K/60 fps and 4K/120 fps in full frame, integrates among its main characteristics a Native dual ISO 800/4000 improves performance in various lighting conditions and is complemented by a maximum of 14.7 steps of dynamic range to deliver cinematic depth and intense color degrees. The solution also has physical ND filters built-in 9 steps to precisely control exposure; DL/E/L/PL/M interchangeable lens mounts to have greater creative freedom; auto focus on manual lenses, and automated manual focus (AMF) to focus quickly and accurately with the LiDAR focusing system.

DJI's Ronin 4D-8K is built around the DJI Cinema Color Science (DCCS), which generates natural skin tones “even in complex lighting conditions.” The DCCS color engine features a new algorithm that delivers detailed yet fluid images, high-bandwidth internal color and tone processing to achieve natural transitions, and high-precision LUT processing modules to enable precise color adjustments in various lighting conditions. This system is complemented by the image processing platform CineCore, which supports up to 8K video in professional codecs, such as Apple ProRes RAW, ProRes 422 HQ, H.264 and, as on the Inspire 3, CinemaDNG. The D color space-Gamut It is optimized for green coloration and a representation of richer skin tones. The curve D-Log, which covers more than 14 stops of dynamic range, “guarantees” detailed retention of highlights and shadows, even in complex lighting conditions, easily color aligning with the ARRI cinema camera and being compatible with the ACES workflow.
