Sony raises the bar for Super Bowl LX with 175 cameras and 3D tracking
The Super Bowl LX once again offered a top-level television show supported by technology from Sony, which brought more than 175 cameras, new headsets for entrancers, and Hawk-Eye video and tracking technology to Levi's Stadium in San Francisco.
As usual every year, the imaging technology of Sony played an important role in capturing and disseminating all the action of the Super Bowl LX, both in video and photography. In total, NBC deployed more than 175 Sony cameras, including multiple cameras HDC for high-speed streaming and capture, as well as multiple camera bodies Alpha, such as the Alpha 1 II and Alpha 9 III, and E-mount lenses, including the G Master. For Ken Goss, executive vice president of NBC Sports, points out that “working with Sony allows us to seamlessly offer all angles, replays and moments from the field to viewers around the world.”
The technology Hawk-Eye Sony, the NFL's virtual measurement system, was used to support officiating and video reviews. Likewise, Hawk-Eye enabled what has been defined as the “first fully integrated optical player and ball tracking environment.” under the name SkeleTRACK, the solution tracked 29 points on each player and 3D tracking of the ball. “Sony’s integrated systems, whether for data arbitration or sideline communication, help us deliver a faster, clearer and more consistent experience on our biggest stage,” he said. Aaron Amendolia, deputy CIO of the NFL.
Another novelty of Super Bowl LX has been the use by the starters of the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks of the series 1000X from Sony. Designed to optimize sound quality and maximize durability, comfort and clarity, this series has enabled crystal-clear communication in a noisy, high-pressure environment.
Theresa Alesso, president of Sony's Imaging Products and Solutions America area, explains that the company's collaboration with the NFL is based on a “shared commitment to innovation.” “This year's Super Bowl reflects how Sony technologies come together across data, communication and imagery to support every moment of the game, from the field to the broadcast and fan experience,” he explains.
