Following the arrival of Liberty Media, Dorna Sports is renamed MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group
The creation of the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group brand defines a new chapter in the history of Dorna Sports, a company founded in 1988 that has helped position Spain as a reference partner in the production of motor sports and that faces a new chapter with the promotion of Liberty Media as owner.
The name change occurs after the brand renewal in 2024 and reflects the organization's ambition to expand beyond the traditional boundaries of motorcycling, embracing digital innovation, immersive fan participation, global storytelling and new forms of entertainment that complement the on-track spectacle. The new corporate name seeks to reflect the “transformation of sport”, which has gone from being a top-level championship to becoming a global sports entertainment platform with cultural impact and resonance around the world.
In this way, Liberty Media, which made the purchase agreement for Dorna Sports official in April 2024, marks the very limits of action of the Spanish company, defining its scope of action to motorcycling and closing, for the moment, the door to an expansion of functions to cover the audiovisual production of the Formula 1.
Dorna Sports' transition to MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group aligns with strategic initiatives long-term plans designed to strengthen MotoGP's reach across continents, broaden its appeal to younger and more diverse audiences, and elevate the fan experience on and off the track. The group will continue to lead the commercial, sports and participation development of fans of MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, the 'Road to MotoGP' programs, the Superbike World Championship and the newly created Harley Davidson Bagger World Cup, reinforcing its role at all levels of elite motorcycling.
In short, Carmelo Expeleta, CEO of MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, considers that the change of names represents a “declaration of intentIn his own words: “MotoGP has grown far beyond being just a championship; has become a global entertainment property followed passionately around the world. As MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, we build on years of continued growth to accelerate innovation and global expansion, always preserving the spirit and values that define our sport.”
