TVU Networks collaborate with Reuters in a gradual migration from satellite to a cloud-managed, IP-based live news distribution model. The new infrastructure is now operational in its first region, and global deployment is advancing strategically.

Although the satellite is reliable, tested and has global reach, weather events can degrade or interrupt transmission and bandwidth capacity is fixed. The new cloud managed IP infrastructure, driven by TVU MediaHub y TV NIGHT (Network Operations Center), addresses four limitations of the satellite.

On the one hand, the new IP platform offers a higher quality audio and video transmission (more consistent, secure and reliable in all conditions and regions, while reducing costs) while the cloud incorporates geographically distributed redundancy y automatic switching mechanisms by mistake to safeguard continuity in real situations. Since the platform is cloud-based, these capabilities are available on demand at no additional cost.

At the same time as the move to IP, defined by software and is dynamically reconfigurable, Reuters manages to scale signals in real time and integrate new workflows without touching physical infrastructure, adapting distribution capacity to adjust to the pace of live news, on demand and without delivery times. Additionally, this migration is expected to reduce total cost of ownership while simplifying daily operations. The result is a more resilient and economically sustainable model which reinforces the quality of Reuters' live news offering around the world.

Joseph Delshadian, director of content distribution at Reuters, highlights that "our responsibility is to preserve the reliability that our customers depend on, while improving the quality and consistency of our live distribution signals around the world. This migration allows us to strengthen both aspects, while supporting our long-term distribution strategy."

The technological base

The technical basis of this migration is TVU MediaHub for signal processing and routing, along with TV NIGHT for network-wide monitoring, operation and incident response. This architecture enables software-defined delivery with real-time observability, automatic failover, and dynamic scaling of cloud and network computing capacity,” said Johannes Heckmann, Senior Solutions Architect at TVU Networks.

The collaboration brings together Reuters' global live news distribution and TVU Networks' technology. Together, the two organizations have implemented a resilient delivery model designed to meet the demands of newsrooms 24/7 at scale.

“Working with Reuters on this project is about supporting a change in the way live content is distributed globally, while ensuring the transition fits within their existing operating model,” he says. Paul Shen, CEO of TVU Networks.

This migration marks the first phase of a broader, multi-year collaboration between Reuters and TVU Networks. Now that the distribution backbone is operational, a second project is underway. The next phase will introduce new capabilities to deliver more live content to more recipients simultaneously. News distribution without the limitations of traditional technology. Finally, it should be noted that Reuters and TVU Networks will present live demonstrations of the platform at the NAB 2026 in Las Vegas.
