Audio-Technica brings mid-side stereo to broadcast environments with the BP350ST-UB and BP350ST-UL
The visitors of NAB 2026 can discover in depth the new MS (“mid-sice”) stereo microphones for the BP350ST-UB and the BP350ST-UL from Audio-Technica, adapted to professional broadcast, production and outdoor recording applications.
The microphone BP350ST-UB can be configured using any of the two solutions Mounting hardware included: a low-profile surface housing and a 5-inch gooseneck with clip mount, making it easy to capture stereo sound from an unobtrusive approach. On the other hand, the BP350ST-UL shotgun microphone It has its cardioid microphone mounted on a tube 16cm interference It rejects off-axis noise to focus on distant sounds, allowing it to be mounted on video cameras and other mounts.
Both in the BP350ST-UB as in the BP350ST-UL, capsule configuration mid-side provides an answercrisp, clear and well balanced", even at high sound pressure levels (SPL). Both systems integrate a switch in the power module AT8547, which allows users to choose between left-right stereo output (wide or narrow) and signs mid-side discreet for later handling.
This MS approach offers advantages for editing in post-production, as it facilitates the natural integration of vocals into a mix and provides audio that does not lose depth when stereo channels are combined into a mono track. The two-microphone-in-one setup also helps reduce common problems in stereo pickup, such as temporal alignment and the comb filter effect.
