RED - NAB 2026 - V-Raptor XE

The cine-broadcast module applied to a live sports environment and the new V-Raptor XE camera are the main attractions of the presence of RED (Nikon) in NAB 2026, which will show the suitability of its camera ecosystem for multi-camera and first-class broadcast environments.

The module Cine-Broadcast by RED, which has already been used recently in events broadcast by CBS Sports y NBC Sports Group, demonstrates in the quote from vegas his ability to “redefine creative flexibility in live production”, as explained Keiji Oishi, CEO of the company. "Productions are harnessing the visual power of large format cinematic storytelling within live content workflows, without sacrificing speed, reliability or standards compliance. It is a perfect addition to the traditional broadcast ecosystem, offering a set of advanced IP-based solutions within a single integrated product," he comments.

The solution comes to NAB 2026 with a new update firmware (2.2 beta) which introduces improvements such as automatic start of recording based on commands tally external coming from the video mixer. This allows you to record files 3d only the part of the event as it was conducted live, which reduces the burden of post-production and allows editors to easily link back to the camera's RAW source.

These improvements enable new high-performance live workflows, such as slow motion 4K a 240p compatible con EVS and including the 8K live production using RED's powerful broadcast-optimized color tools.

Visitors to the stand can also jump onto the court (virtually) and check the result of an immersive live production in which the live transmission system is put into play R3D 8K of NETWORK. With Monks showing your customized server infrastructure and your VR workflow live, the system offers Smooth camera switching, custom UV mapping, composite graphics and multi-channel audio, demonstrating its adaptability for sports productions, shared reality venues and cutting-edge immersive experiences in Apple Vision Pro.

Jeff Goodman, vice president of product management at RED, highlights that the demo illustrates the possibilities of live productions “when cinema-quality tools are combined with live workflows”: “Immersive experiences like this require the highest quality, and that's exactly what RED Connect offers: real-time access to the camera's full and uncompromised dynamic range, frame rates and resolution, over IP.”

RED also exhibits the V‑Raptor, a solution that, based on the architecture V‑Raptor [X], presents a compact design which seeks to bring RED's “cinematic fidelity and signature dynamic range” to a broader range of productions.

The XE offers versatile shooting options with speeds up to 60 frames per second (fps) in 8K VV, 80 fps in 6K S35, 120 fps in 4K and 240 fps in 2K, and includes improvements to boot speed and sensor power efficiency. With 17 steps of dynamic range and ability to work in low light conditions, RF mount options or Nikon Z, and a compact body of just over 1.8 kg, the XE provides a tool set adaptable to “any scale” productions.

RED showcase at NAB completes with workflow station RED R3D and Nikon R3D NE, where attendees can discover the potential of RAW images from both platforms managed with iodyne's high-performance Pro Data storage solution. On the other hand, RED allows you to explore the advantages of the IPP2 color process, ranging from color management to editing in leading non-linear editors (NLE) and the application of advanced workflow techniques.
