Hawk-Eye GLT

The British technology company Hawk-Eye Innovations reinforces the positioning of its Goal-Line Technology (GLT) system as an international reference for refereeing in professional football competitions, underlining the need for extreme precision solutions in a sport where “the difference between glory and disappointment can be reduced to a millimeter”.

Hawk-Eye highlights that its GLT system was the first certified by FIFA and that it has already been implemented for more than a decade in major leagues and international tournaments. According to the company, the technology has used in more than 250 stadiums spread across 50 countries, supporting more than 35,000 meetings.

The technical infrastructure of the system is based on 14 trail cameras permanently installed in each stadium, capable of tracking the ball from multiple angles and generating automatic validation when it completely crosses the goal line.

The notification is transmitted in less than a second to the referee's smart watch using an encrypted and validated signal, and is also complemented by an alert in the referee's audio communication system to guarantee the continuity of the game without interruptions.

One of the central plots of Hawk-Eye is the level of accuracy achieved for its technology. The company ensures that its GLT offers an accuracy of less than a millimeter in the official installation tests required by FIFA, far exceeding the minimum international standards required to maintain certification.

The company also highlights the integration of this solution within broader referee ecosystems, including VAR systems, advanced semi-automated offside technologies and video support platforms for referees.

In parallel, Hawk-Eye has reinforced the audiovisual component of its solutions through 3D graphics in real time intended for broadcasters and viewers. These recreations allow the goal line plays to be accurately visualized and can be visually adapted to the graphic identity of each competition, also opening new monetization and sponsorship opportunities for leagues and tournaments.

Operational sustainability

Another of the strategic axes highlighted by the company is operational sustainability. Hawk-Eye operates its GLT systems through hybrid models that combine permanent infrastructure in stadiums with remote operations centers (ROC), reducing technical travel and optimizing resources.

With this approach, the company seeks to consolidate an increasingly technological arbitrage model integrated, automated and reliable for major international competitions, in a context where pressure on refereeing precision continues to increase both from clubs and players as well as broadcasters and fans.
