Atlantika and Wood join forces in 'Patagonia', a Spanish-Chilean co-production for Movistar Plus+
'Patagonia' is filmed, a new original series of Movistar Plus+ in collaboration with Wood Productions (Chile) and Atlantic Films (Spain) that proposes an eco thriller with overtones of a “powerful and universal” family drama.
Locations in the south of Chile host the filming of Patagonia, a fiction produced by María Elena Wood Montt and Patricio Pereira, responsible for titles such as Dignity y News of a kidnapping, and Nano Arrieta and Claudia Ruiz (They shot the pianist, Haunted Heart). The project began filming in April and will last until the end of May in in Hornopir, a town with ancient larch forests. Afterwards, filming will move to the Basque Country for two weeks.
María Elena Wood Montt, creator and executive producer of María Wood Producciones, explains that Patagonia born from the need to tell a deeply human story in one of the “most moving and extreme territories on the planet.” "The series exposes the fragility of human bonds in the face of nature, power and survival. An emotional thriller that challenges its characters to transform their worldviews to find what they are looking for," he comments, expressing himself in terms similar to those of Nano Arrieta, executive producer of Atlántica Films: “Patagonia "It represents many of the qualities that we look for in the projects we develop: a story with a point of view, current and universal in which moral dilemmas challenge us as spectators."
Starring actress Itziar Ituño (The Money Heist, Privacy), directed by Rodrigo Susarte (hidden island, Gen Mishima) and written by Luis Barrales, Anastasia Ayazi and Germán Maggiori, The production consists of six episodes. The cast is completed by a cast that brings together Spanish and Chilean actors: Candido Uranga (Maspalomas, Bad weather), Pablo Macaya (Baby Bandit, 42 days in the dark, The spirit house), Marcelo Alonso (The club, Spider), Sara Becker (The spirit house, The movie teller), Trinidad Gonzalez (a fantastic woman, Ramona), Patricia Cuyul (Spider, Inés of my soul) y Unai Arana (Missing).
Patagonia is a new series of Movistar Plus+, in collaboration with Wood Productions (Chile) and Atlantic Films (Spain), with the support of CNTV, National Television of Chile and Provincial Council of Bizkaia. Distributed internationally by ZDF Studios, it has Guisseppe Truppi as director of photography, Sebastian Muñoz as production manager and Barbara Jeraldo as art director.
This is the synopsis of the series, which will initially be seen exclusively on Movistar Plus+: "When Noah (Unai Arana) disappears without a trace, his mother Alicia (Itziar Ituño) leaves the Basque Country and travels to Chilean Patagonia to find him. There, in a wild territory crossed by ancient forests and illegal logging networks, the search becomes a desperate race where each clue reveals new threats and old family wounds."
