PTZ retransmision 5G Cosmote TV Aviwest

For the first time, part of the final of the Greek Football Cup was carried out with several 5G feeds. Cosmote TV, in charge of the operations, used Aviwest equipment.

The pilot test, conducted by Cosmote TV, involved the remote control of two robotic cameras and the transmission of audio and video through its own 5G network. These PTZs featured special, wireless, 5G-optimized equipment supplied by Telmaco. The image captured by the two robotic cameras was transmitted via 5G directly from the stadium to the studios “in perfect synchronization and without any delay,” notes Cosmote.

For the use case, Aviwest AIR320-5G units, BirdDog UHD P400 robotic cameras and a StreamHub unit also from Aviwest were used for synchronization, communication and decoding of the signals to and from the control room. The 5G network enabled the transmission of high-definition images and remote management of the cameras from the control room.

First initiative in Greece

George Tsonis, executive director of network design and development at OTE Group, owner of Cosmote, believes that this development will open the door to similar developments in Greece: “In the coming years, innovative applications utilizing fifth-generation networks will change many sectors of the economy as we know them today. The pilot application through COSMOTE 5G proves just that, as it opens new avenues in television broadcasts and productions. Having been the first to bring 5G to the Greek market, we will continue to invest and work intensively, to bring the benefits of this new technology, throughout the country.”

Cosmote TV’s director of content and production operations, Demosthenes Vassilopoulos, for his part, celebrates the milestone: “Innovation is an integral part of it COSMOTE TV. We are happy that we made the first live TV broadcast in Greece through a fifth generation network. We take advantage of every opportunity that technology gives us, so that we can offer our viewers the best possible result over time, in the most modern way.”
