Classic105 - Lawo crystalCLEAR

The touch-based virtual radio technology of Lawo arrives to Kenya’s Classic105 with a crystalCLEAR mixing solution.

Streaming radio station Classic105, part of the Radio Africa group, has decided to upgrade its infrastructure with the crystalCLEAR mixing solution from Lawo, which uses VisTool Virtual Radio Studio Builder software. The “virtual mixer” GUI controls Lawo’s Compact Engine, a compact 1RU mixing engine with AoIP audio interfaces and DSP audio processing. The 12-fader touchscreen radio console was installed by local distributor and systems integrator BYCE Broadcast, which worked closely with Classic105 and Lawo to meet the client’s specific requirements.

Nairobi-based Radio Africa Group is one of Kenya’s most dynamic media companies, with a portfolio of radio and TV stations, websites and print newspapers. Beyond this latest implementation at Classic105, the corporation decided to install a Lawo RƎLAY PC-based virtual mixing system at sister station Kiss100 FM.

Philip Keter, technical director of Radio Africa Group, says he is “happy” with Lawo’s virtual consoles. “We have had Kiss100 FM using Lawo RƎLAY mixing for more than one year now, and we have not experienced any downtime. We are even more excited about crystalCLEAR; the presenters love its robustness, flexibility, and agility. It is not only easy to operate but actually helps enhance creativity!” notes Keter.
