Animacor will take place at the beginning of November

From November 2 to 7, Córdoba will host the fifth edition of this event that has become a reference for the animation sector.

The President of the Provincial Council of Córdoba and President of Animacor, Francisco Pulido, and the Director of the Animacor'09 Festival, Antonio Zurera Aragón, have presented this week in the Plenary Hall of the Provincial Council of Córdoba some of the novelties of the 5th International Animation Festival of Córdoba, Animacor'09, which will be held from November 2 to 7. The contest, sponsored by the Provincial Council of Córdoba, the Junta de Andalucía and the Provincial Consortium for Economic Development, consolidates the city of Córdoba as a benchmark for the international animation industry.

Animacor'09 will be part of En Clave 16, a program of cultural activities promoted by the Córdoba Cultural City Foundation that will take place during 2009. The Foundation was created in 2006 by the Córdoba City Council, the Provincial Council, the Government of Andalusia and the University of Córdoba with the aim of promoting the candidacy for Cultural Capital 2016.

In this new edition, the amount of the cash prizes amounts to 42,000 euros. The winners of the Official Competitive Section, in their Feature Film, Short Film and TV Series categories, will also receive the traditional “Carrasquito” statuette, which reproduces the image of the official logo of the contest. Among the awards to be awarded, the Special Prize of the Children's Jury for the Best TV Series also stands out, endowed with 3,000 euros and “carrasquito”, and the RTVA Award for Andalusian Audiovisual Creation, in collaboration with the Obra Social de Cajasol, and endowed with another 3,000 euros and a trophy.

As a novelty in this edition, it should be noted that the Festival venues have been expanded, since the Andalusian Film Library and the Palacio de la Merced of the Provincial Council of Córdoba will be joined by the Córdoba Youth Hostel, where the workshops and courses scheduled for the Festival will take place. The advance in the date of the call for participation in the Animacor'09 Competitive Section is having a formidable international impact that encourages confidence in a considerable increase in the number of works received compared to the previous year. The deadline for receiving works ends on July 31.

In addition to the Competitive Section, Animacor'09 will maintain morning screenings for schools in Córdoba and the province, which are usually received with great success by children. In addition, we will have the usual screening cycle sections within the Information Sessions and Parallel Activities, such as educational workshops, which will explore the possibilities of new technologies, conferences and specialized Anime programming. In this edition, the Festival will also dedicate a space to the world of video games. Animacor'09 will also maintain its differential characteristic with respect to other festivals with the celebration of the IV Multilateral Animation Co-production Forum, on November 5 and 6.
